Transferring basic plan conventions to digital models

Transferring basic plan conventions to digital models

When I was an architectural student, I learned:

- No plan without title block

- No plan without a visual scale

- No floor plan without a north arrow

Transferring this to a digital world it could mean:

- No model without an Author attribute

- The scale is 1:1, so we can skip it

- The north arrow is the model reference point. We could even upgrade it to show north!

I analyzed over 1000 models; only 10% fulfilled these essential criteria.

Why does it matter? You never know how your models will be used in the future, and having the possibility to show authorship might be necessary - just the same as with plans.

Cant skip scale, Simon Dilhas ?? i recently encountered a mix of Millimeter and Meter when federating Ifc models. Brave new world ??

Yes! That’s the right idea. And carrying it further, just like drawings are equipment for making things clear in (mental) models, making things clear in digital models (what things? Whatever needs to be made clear) is equally necessary. Where’s the equipment for that? Why is it missing and why do so few people ask? Here the equipment is proposed as ‘TGN’: https://www.dhirubhai.net/posts/robsnyder3333_tgn-elev-main-and-plan-tiles-activity-7104044943781879808-zSFS. (Includes a new TGN simulation/demo)

yep, we need to bring people to talk and share data with same "language" merging BIM&GIS share the I in between but are different in scale, so a unique identifyer is nes. Beside the knowledge sharing of people working in BIM and GIS world, finaly only one earth we are living on

?Writing Blockade” ?????? I love being honest about imperfections. From every fail a new idea rises. We need more of this. Btw: I really appreciate your honest insights into the “not so perfect everyday reality”
