Transfer Window for Careers

Transfer Window for Careers

It’s that time of the year again…

Yes, you guessed it right, the transfer season is at its pinnacle and the world of football is just anticipating some major moves this season. ?

Just for your reference, a transfer window is a period during the year in which a football club can transfer players from other playing staff into their playing staff. Such a transfer is completed by registering the player into the new club through FIFA.

It’s surely not as simple as it sounds. Over the years we have seen some major moves being made by players and major clubs across football leagues. This year is no different, or is it??

But wait why am I even talking about this in the first place? What does the football transfer window have to do with careers? If you think of it, the transfer window isn’t really different from job switches and attrition that we are witnessing in the professional world today. It is interesting to see how corporates and startups are trying to deal with this global challenge.?Professionals today are seeking better opportunities, which allows them to work on their own terms. The flexibility provided by remote work has been a blessing for a lot of individuals globally. Young professionals today are swayed by additional benefits that corporates or funded startups have to offer. The same is the case with the talent in the world of football being attracted by major clubs around the globe. Be it Gareth Bale's move from Real Madrid after a glorious run or Erling Haaland's move to the Premier League champions this year-Manchester City, it has been exciting to see what talented players are seeking. The same can be applied to literally any profession today. Another interesting thing to observe through the transfer window is retention and the strategy deployed by clubs to retain their best players. The perfect example would be the case of Kylian Mbappé. The star player was almost about to make a move to UEFA champions Real Madrid, but he shocked the world by signing a 3-year extension with his current legacy club 'PSG'. This can clearly be translated to the fact that if an employer wants to retain the talent they have to go above and beyond.

Interesting isn't it? Let me know your thoughts. It is all about observation trying and make sense of your career or learning a relevant lesson through everything you witness. Do feel free to share any other examples from the sporting world that we can learn something from.
