Transfer multiple items under one License plate from the Manufacturing unit to the Distribution center
Microsoft has added one more useful feature on the mobile device to support warehouse operations. It's made easy for the warehouse to directly create a transfer order with multiple items/lines through a mobile device.
Even earlier there were some features released on a mobile device over transfer orders. But, only able to transfer item by item or need to nest a License plate before transferring them to another location. Or need to create a Transfer order on the Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations portal and release it to the warehouse.
Now, this chaos was reduced. Workers on the factory side can just scan the License plates on the final products and move them to the bay door and keep them ready to ship to the Distribution Center.
A simple set of configuration flow to achieve the create transfer order through mobile device:
- Enable Transfer order features on Feature Management
2. Create a mobile device menu item for generating transfer orders through the mobile devices.
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Mobile device > Mobile device menu items
2.1. Menu Item Name: Give some meaningful name
2.2. Title: Give some meaningful name
2.3. Mode: Indirect
2.4. Activity Code: Create transfer order from license plates
2.5. Transfer order line creation policy:
No reservation: Transfer order lines created, will not be reserved.
License plate guided with line reservation: The transfer order lines will be reserved over the License plate scanned on the mobile device. Make sure that in location directive that's going to be created for the pick is following the License plate guided strategy.
2.6. Outbound shipment policy:
None: No action is performed.
Release to warehouse: Once the worker clicks complete notifying the order got completed. It is released to the warehouse creating Transfer pick work.
Ship confirm: Automates the ship confirmation process.
Release and ship confirm: Once the worker clicks complete on the mobile device, the Transfer order will be released to the warehouse, work gets auto-completed and shipment confirms automatically. Of course, need to set up a work template to Auto process the work and configure the Process outbound shipment.
3. Work templates for Transfer issue:
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Work > Work templates
3.1. Under the Edit query, click the sort tab and add sorting on Located License plate.
3.2. Back to Work templates form, click on work header breaks. Check on Group by this field over Located license plate ID.
4. Location directives for Transfer issue:
Path: Warehouse management > Setup > Location directives
Am not detailing much about the location directives. Just highlighting the mandatory configurations, can modify according to the business requirements.
4.1. Location directive for Pick:
4.2. Location directive for Put to move items to Bay door. Under edit query in location directive actions, configured the location to Bay door.
5. Schedule Warehouse App Events:
Path: Warehouse management > Periodic tasks > Process warehouse app events
Enable batch processing and set recurrence to run the process in batch.
6. Schedule Automatic Release of Transfer orders:
Path: Warehouse management > Release to warehouse > Automatic release of transfer orders.
Make sure that the outbound shipment policy selected is the same that matches the one on the mobile device menu item configured at step 2.6
7. Process outbound shipment:
Path: Warehouse management > Periodic tasks > Process outbound shipments
This configuration confirms the shipments for which the work has been processed.
7.1. Join of the Invent Transfer additional fields on the Records to include.
8. Create Transfer Order from the warehouse app:
8.1. Now, it's time to go to the mobile device. Workers can go to the mobile device menu and scan the License plates to transfer.
8.2. Scan the destination warehouse.
8.3. Scan the License plate
8.4. In this case, scanned 2 License plates. Displays the count of the LPs scanned.
8.5. Click More action and click complete.
9. Once the LPs are scanned and moved to the bay door and the transfer order creation got completed on the mobile device. The log can be seen on Warehouse app events on Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
10. Once the order got created, the Event state changes to completed.
11. Transfer order created through mobile device
12. Work was automatically completed as per the configurations done on work template by Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.
13. Shipment got confirmed automatically confirmed on successful completion of the work.
14. Finally, the order is in shipped status.
This is how Microsoft is concentrating on simplifying the warehouse operations and working over the digital transformation. With a simple scan on the mobile device, the Transfer orders were created, work got generated and processed, and finally transfer order and shipment were processed to shipped status on the back end by Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations.

2 年Hi Pavan, It is n excellent article. It helps me!!! I had an issue: I tried to ship 1 item with 3 LP, and the ship put the first LP for all transactions. Is there any setup for this? The idea would be to transfer 3 containers (3 LP) and they remain in the destination warehouse. Thanks!
Outstanding article, very well explained, absolutly usefull and made my day, thanks!!!
Thanks for sharing Mr. Pavan Mohamed Samir
