Yesterday I was lucky enough to chair Transforming Commissioning: Levelling Up and Community Investment, a Third Sector Commissioning conference from Westminster Insights. A recent report by the global business strategists Boston Consulting Group?and the World Economic Forum has found global government procurement is responsible for 15% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Their study reported that governments spend $11trillion(USD) annually-or 15% of global GDP, on procurement every year. Our own prior study, tracked the value of global procurement at $13 Trillion(USD) per year, suggesting that the greenhouse gas emissions could be even higher than the BCG findings.

A fortnight ago the #LevellingUp White Paper recognised that “the UK’s centralised governance model means local actors have too rarely been empowered”. Last week, the Government announced it’s “looking into concerns” after Haringey published its local magazine too frequently
Final FT illustration: productivity versus disposable income. For London boroughs it’s worth noting that once housing is taken into consideration disposable income is similar to the national average.
Curious that the devolved administrations will retain the amount they secured via EU Structural Funds, but in England that’s only reserved for Cornwall. By the same token, they’ll receive capacity funding to bid for the Levelling Up Fund but not all English authorities will.

QUESTION: “I’m a progressive councillor who wants to support the shift from private cars to a healthy city, what parking policy should I be pushing for?”
This THREAD tries to answer in three parts:
The #HighwayCode doesn’t advise cycling in the centre of the road.
It advises cyclists to ride in the centre of their lane in some situations - not to deliberately slow drivers, but to boost visibility and ensure cars can only pass when safe to do so.

In 2012, a literally game-changing economics paper was published. I believe can eventually transform the very structure of civilization. (I don’t make these kinds of statements lightly.) Yet it’s still virtually unknown outside of academia. The (highly technical) paper, “Iterated Prisoner’s Dilemma contains strategies that dominate any evolutionary opponent”, is by legendary physicist Freeman Dyson […]

2 年Benjamin, While conceptually I'd like to understand what kind of science you are exploring, when I see the lead to the "5 Worlds" model of organization as promising "It can unlock?#innovation,?#creativity, and improve?#customerrelations?and?#productivity." You lose me entirely. It makes you seem totally are unaware of or just not caring about our systems' relationships with each other or the earth. You're so skilled with words, it's a shame to devote them to false purposes.
Putting L&D where it deserves to be...on the top table.
