Transcending Race in Mentoring

…race relations are often a hot and uncomfortable topic, & I feel especially compelled to share my experiences with women of all backgrounds.

As a woman of color, I've encountered moments with non BIPOC women—both on and off the basketball court—that left me feeling disempowered. I've crossed paths with women who either didn’t recognize the profound impact of mentoring younger women or lacked the courage and vulnerability to mentor openly.

But one thing I’ve come to understand is that love transcends race. And for me, the challenge has always been to remain open to receiving love, even in the midst of my own painful memories.

Today, I am profoundly grateful for these two women who have mentored me with such grace and wisdom.
