Transactional or Relational?

Transactional selling is focused on achieving individual sales transactions and maximizing revenue per transaction. This approach may involve offering limited-time promotions or discounts to encourage customers to make a purchase. Transactional selling can be particularly effective for attracting new customers who are interested in a specific product or deal.?This approach can be effective in generating short-term sales and profits, but it may not foster long-term customer loyalty or brand advocacy.

Relational selling, on the other hand, emphasizes building long-term relationships with customers through recommending products based on their preferences or offering exclusive access to events or products. This approach can help create loyal customers who are more likely to make repeat purchases and recommend the brand to others.

In the luxury retail industry, where building strong relationships with customers is critical, a relational approach is often preferred. Luxury brands may prioritize offering exceptional customer service, creating memorable in-store experiences, and building personalized relationships with customers through various touchpoints.

However, it's important to note that a purely relational approach may not always generate the desired revenue or profit. Therefore, luxury brands may need to strike a balance between transactional and relational approaches and train their staff to be agile between the two positions.

Thanks for Sharing. Usually, we need first to discover if asking for a discount is a real objection or a fake one, as in many times asking for a discount is just a bubble to say something else. In all the ways, we should consider - when handling the discount issue - that the client and I as a sales associate at the same line and going in the same road, not fronting each other or trying a register a victory at the end of the transaction. Simply, it always should be a win win situation. I am training in different role-plays this issue and in most of the times it worked with the client. Thanks
