Trans Mountain Pipeline Expansion
The federally owned, Trans Mountain Expansion Project, which began operating in May 2024, is exploring capacity expansion. The current capacity of 890,000 barrels per day, could add an additional 200,000 to 300,000 barrels per day, with the increase, signalling a strategic move to enhance Canada's energy export capacity, particularly in light of geopolitical uncertainties such as potential U.S. tariffs, as per Global News and Reuters News. Given that Trans Mountain already transports crude to Canada’s Pacific Coast, an expansion could further solidify Canada’s access to international markets, particularly Asia.
If the expansion moves forward, it must have the continued, increase support of environmental groups and Indigenous communities, to realize the economic benefits and help in reducing geopolitical pressures. ?Its time for all stakeholders to collaboratively move ahead as one country.
Have a prosperous day.
