Traits of the Top 1% in Sales

What separates the top 1% of salespeople from everyone else? What do they have that allows them to consistently close more sales than their peers? One of the most important tools that they have is empathy. Empathy is best described as the ability to understand and share the feelings of another. When you can put yourself in the shoes of your customer, it becomes much easier to close a sale. In this blog post, we will discuss what empathy is and how you can use it to become a better salesperson!

If you want to join the ranks of the top salespeople in your organization, start by

developing your empathy skills. Empathy is a critical part of successful

selling because it allows you to understand your customer’s needs and wants.

When you can see things from their perspective, it becomes much easier to find

common ground and close a sale. So how can you develop your empathy skills?

Here are a few tips:

  • Listen more than you speak. When you’re talking, you’re not learning anything

about the other person. So shut up and listen! Pay attention to both what they

say and how they say it. This will give you clues about what they’re really

thinking and feeling.

  • Ask questions. This may seem obvious, but so many salespeople forget to do it.

Asking questions shows that you’re interested in the other person and that you

want to understand their needs.

  • Be a good listener. This goes hand-in-hand with asking questions. When you’re really

listening to someone, it shows in your body language and the way you respond to

them. Nod your head, make eye contact, and give them your full attention.

  • Practice active listening. This is a technique that will help you understand

what the other person is saying on a deeper level. When you’re actively

listening, you’re not just hearing the words, you’re trying to understand the

meaning behind them. You’re also paying attention to nonverbal cues like body

language and tone of voice.

Developing your empathy skills will take time and practice, but it will be worth it in the

long run. When you can see things from your customer’s perspective, you’ll be

able to close more sales and build better relationships. So start practicing

today!
