A trait for every Digital Analyst

A trait for every Digital Analyst

Over the past few years, while working in the field of Digital Analytics I came to realize a very important quality that every digital analyst or for that matter all of us must nurture and cherish.

A Day in the Life of a Digital Analytics Professional, Do you relate?

A typical day in the analysts career deals with gathering requirements, identifying KPIs, on-boarding various analytics platforms, making sure reports are flowing, churning the data and helping with insights.

While handling data, sometimes we get queries from business like-

  • why this value is ‘not set’ or ‘null’,
  • why aren’t the numbers matching in total,
  • why is the graph going down,
  • should this value be zero, etc.

We need to be very patient in understanding the problem and finding the root cause for it. Without EMPATHY, it is very difficult to relate to the use cases and the underlying issues.

Unless we see the problem from their perspective it becomes difficult to build an explanatory story to the scenario. Many a times the answer to the question lies in the query itself. It is our responsibility to bring it out in the open and shed some light on it.

Too much empathy can sometimes become a problem. It might restrict our thought process of thinking out of the box or analyzing the scenario from a vantage point where we are open to all the probable possibilities.

Closing the article with this quote:

The highest form of knowledge... is empathy
-Bill Bullard

Open for your thoughts and comments.

Stay tuned for another great quality that is a must have for digital analysts.

Any guesses ??
