Training? What for?
Do you work on your own, or are you the owner of a small company, or maybe a large company for that matter? ?Are you a manager or the person who has employees or associates coming to you for instructions and/or guidance?? If you are now or have ever been in a position where you are responsible to teach others to do something, I’m sure this will be of some interest to you.? Of course, if you already know absolutely everything there is to know about everything, and you’d rather die than teach anyone what you know, this will probably be of no interest to you at all.
As strange as it may seem, there actually are more people out there than you can imagine who believe, absolutely believe, they know everything, or at least darn nearly everything.? They’re the ones who don’t ever need your help and never take the time to truly listen to you or anyone else.? Do a couple of individuals like that immediately come to mind?
Some things don’t have to be written specifically about businesspeople to be particularly apropos. Such is the case with the writings of author William Arthur Ward, who just happens to be one of the most quoted authors of all time. ?So, I might as well add to his impeccable reputation and be just one more person to quote him. ?And I quote, “The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.”
With little or no effort at all we can easily substitute the word Manager for Teacher in William Arthur Ward’s quote.? Managers are often the most prolific teachers in the company.? However, managers aren’t the only teachers in the company.? Salespeople are also teachers.? Selling is simply convincing someone to do something.? In order to convince, a salesperson will teach a customer about a product or service available, an advantage to what’s being sold, and a benefit to that customer.? Whether you are a manager or salesperson, you are a teacher.
If you are a salesperson or manager, which you very well may be, and you ARE NOT working with a coach (trainer) who can assist you in reaching your full potential, then you are not quite the salesperson/manager you could so easily become!? With only a modicum of effort you could be achieving your true potential.? Now, if you’re already the best that you could possibly be, then you might as well ignore everything I said.?
