3 年The speed at which one trains is critical, and training needs to happen at a variety of speeds, depending on the stage of progress. The thing about training slow that is often overlooked is keeping the speed of the attacker/defender proportionate. For example, when you see certain weapon defenses being demonstrated, instructors will do a series of moves (stepping off line, kick, punch, etc.) all in the same amount of time it took for the attacker to swing a club or make a slashing motion with a knife. Performance factors are totally neglected and students begin practicing sequences that are physically impossible. Specifically, a knife slash or stab can be completed in well under 0.3 seconds, and countless instructors are teaching a series of defenses to counter these, which can take seconds to complete. In slow motion, it seems great, but speed it up and it will fall apart.
