Hiya! We're back in your inbox with another HSE topic - Safety Training! Well specifically, the latest trends in this constantly evolving world.?
Whilst there are a number of trends that continue to emerge, our top 5 are designed to make safety training more engaging, effective and accessible.?
Here are five safety training trends to watch in 2023:?
Trend #1: E-Learning
E-learning is becoming increasingly popular as a way to deliver safety training. E-learning courses can be accessed online, on-demand, and at the learner's own pace. This makes them a convenient and flexible option for busy workers.
A recent study by the Association for Talent Development found that e-learning is the most popular training method for employees, with 68% of learners preferring it over traditional classroom training.
Trend #2: Gamification
Gamification is the use of game-like elements in non-game contexts. This can be a fun and engaging way to deliver safety training. Gamified safety training courses often use points, badges, and leaderboards to keep learners motivated.
A study by the University of Central Florida found that gamified safety training courses can increase learner engagement by up to 70%.
Trend #3: Virtual Reality
VR is an immersive, simulated experience, usually delivered by a headset system. It's not wildly different from training gamification, however, the simulated physical presence has shown to have much higher memory retention.?
An interesting note is the capability to provide repair or troubleshooting options for those in remote locations. VR allows this task to be completed without taking heavy machinery out via fleet or letting an experienced repairman guide a worker that is already in this location. We met an awesome company at an event last year that does this - check them out.
Trend #4: Microlearning
Microlearning is the delivery of short, bite-sized learning modules. These modules are typically 5-10 minutes long and can be accessed on demand. Microlearning is a great way to deliver safety training that is easy to digest and retain.
A study by the Aberdeen Group found that organizations that use microlearning for safety training see a 25% reduction in accidents.
