Training Delivery Problems :
Fear and Anxiety is the most common problem for all trainers, even for the most expert deliverers.
Optimum level of fear of failure actually leads to success as you then are more particular about the content you develop and prepare harder for the training program. Hence, a little fear or anxiety is always needed. If you don’t feel anxiety at all, you will be over confident and not deliver the training effectively.
Solutions to overcoming over anxiety while delivering are :
1. Be Well Prepared
2. Use Icebreakers
3. Acknowledge your Fear
Trustworthiness :
You must have an attitude of an expert, even if you are not completely an expert.
Do not have a sorry attitude for yourself at any point, feel and appear confident and at no point, should you feel unsure about yourself.
Personal Experience : Don’t have stories to incorporate into training.
Solutions to overcome this problem are :
1. Relate Personal Experiences
2. Report Personal Experiences of Others
How to handel Difficult Learners : The ones who are Angry / Passive / Dominating
You can handle such people by :
1. Confronting the problem using humor.
2. Sidestepping dominating behavior using nonverbal behavior such as breaking eye contact.
3. Being Assertive in your approach.
4. Using small groups of participants to target the difficult learner.
Example. The professor was conducting a program for banking professionals. One of the learners was trying to show off and interrupting the training frequently. The professor noticed that and kept him under observation for the first 30 min without initiating any action from his end. After 30 min, when he interrupted again, the professor head him out and then asked the group, what have they learnt from this person who has been sharing his thoughts with us for the past 30 min. The participants said, it has been leading to waste of time and distractions.
The difficult person understood and did not interrupt unnecessarily post this feedback.
To encourage audience participation :
1. Ask open ended questions
2. Plan small group activities
3. Invite Participation
Handling Questions form audience :
1. Anticipate questions
2. Paraphrase questions (For example. This is Saurabh’s question, Is there anyone who can provide an answer to it?)
3. I don’t know is Okay if you don’t know the answer to the question (Usually people these days use “I will get back to you”)
Opening and Closing :
1. Develop opening file
2. Memorize
3. Relax Trainees
4. Summarize
Dependency on Notes :
Notes are necessary but use visuals and practice activities more often.
Hope this will help. Happy Learning
