Training Data - The Foundation of AI
More often than not, people ask me what my company, We Are Oasis , does. Mainly, I would start with something like, “We offer 24/7 Customer Support Services, human-in-the-loop Data annotation services, and back-office support.” The follow-up question is always what data annotation it is and what it is used for. After many years of answering this question, I have finally found a better answer. Data annotation is simply training data for machine learning and artificial intelligence.
Training data, in the context of human-in-the-loop data annotation, is the information used to teach a computer system or machine learning model to perform a specific task. It's like showing examples to a computer to help it understand and learn what it needs to do.
Human-in-the-loop data annotation means that people are involved in labeling or annotating data. For example, if you train a computer to recognize cats in pictures, humans would look at many pictures and mark which ones have cats and which don't.
With the cat/no-cat annotations, this labeled data becomes the training data. The computer uses this data to learn patterns and characteristics that help it identify cats in new, unlabeled pictures. The more accurate and diverse the training data, the better the computer can recognize cats independently.
In summary, humans play a critical role in the data training process by ensuring data quality, offering contextual understanding, adapting to changing scenarios, preventing biases, and supporting the ongoing improvement of machine learning models. This human-in-the-loop approach enhances the effectiveness and reliability of AI systems in various applications.
