Trainee Station in the Golden State - Trains for the Canadian Market

I am always amazed at the great experiences I can gather during the Siemens Austria Trainee Program. In this article, I would like to report on one of them, which ranks right among the very top. For half a year Bryce Dudgeon made it possible for me to work at the Siemens Mobility plant in Sacramento for the project "VIA Rail Canada" - I had a great time.

After one year in the trainee program, in which I mainly worked in the bid project management and sales for locomotives and electrical multiple units, I started the delegation in October 2022. The tasks I was given were something completely new for me - I worked in project management for the production of 160 passenger coaches and was out on the production floor for a large part of the time.?

There were a wide variety of challenges to solve here, because production of the passenger cars for the project had only recently begun. I was a link between production and project management for a major part of the time. If there were challenges in production, I analyzed them, communicated them with the employees in the plant, engineering, project management and other departments, and provided possible solutions. These were then implemented.

In addition, I also got to know many new commercial topics, as I was also in contact with e.g. purchasing, order management, etc. and was also in a position to provide support here. Last but not least, I was also active in the field of Braille - a task in which I gained many important and new insights into a world that was new to me, and I hope to have made a positive contribution to some people.

The delegation was also fabulous outside of work. California (especially Sacramento) in the winter is great for skiing at Lake Tahoe, hiking, experiencing many cultural offerings, attending NBA and NFL games, visiting other cities like San Francisco, and much more.

A big thank you goes to the project team in Sacramento, I was extraordinarily warmly received, learned a lot and hope that we will continue to cross paths, whether in the Siemens world or personally. Another special thank you goes to the shared apartment I had in Sacramento with other Siemens employees, as well as to all the other people I had the chance to meet. Without them, the time would never have been so nice.
