NO!, we have the technology to actually develop Trailer to Truck power regeneration through kinetics and propulsion for trailer to truck performance.
Trailer battery systems are moving towards 800 Volt systems. With so many innovations and improvements in the DC/DC converters from high voltage to low voltage, every system that uses electrical power will all be run from the one main battery. Lift gates and telematics will all run from the one battery system. So what does this mean? For us, it means our electric slide axle drive allows for our system to have two 800V motors installed within the slide axle substructure with a half shaft coming off the motor and attaching to the input of the of the portal hub axle.
So we have two motors, one on each side of the trailer connected by a axle. If the trailer this axle is mounted to is a dry van, you have a trailer propulsion system. The system will now act to regenerate power to the smaller on board battery pack, then when needed, propulsion engages for up steep grades. Both motors will add performance of the both the trailer and tractor when moving down grades as well. The system will also power the battery system on the truck through out the the travel as well, no matter what type of truck is being used.
