Traffic lights
I wrote about lighting and cars this week. Well, how to light cars. Sibling Rivalry, an NY-headquartered production firm, got hired to do some work for Genesis and its agency, Innocean. The problem was, they had to match the aesthetic of earlier spots in the car brand's campaigns - which were set in a "copper world". Copper's one of the luxury metals, apparently.
Anyway, normally you'd have to light this very carefully, using lots of different lights. The cars need to look properly white against the copper background, which is tough because they're very reflective.
The solution was Nant Studios, where they normally shoot movies. It was available because of the actor's strikes over the summer, so they shot an ad for cars in it instead.
Naturally there's more detail in the piece (so please read it), but I liked reporting on it. Learning about how the sausage is made is always worthwhile, especially when what goes into the sausage is changing so much - a process I've been tracking across the whole of this mini-series.
