Simply put, sustainability is at the heart of everything we do and sometimes, the simple traditional methods are the most effective. That’s why we’re proud to share one of our favourite zero-waste solutions, where tradition meets modern sustainability - our local pigs!

After the cocoa beans are carefully harvested and processed, the cocoa pods are often seen as waste. But we know there’s more to them than meets the eye. Instead of letting these pods go unused, they become nutritious feed for livestock, especially pigs.

Turning Waste into a Resource

In our cocoa farming communities, leftover cocoa pods have traditionally been a valuable resource for local farmers. By repurposing cocoa pods into pig feed, we reduce waste while providing farmers with a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to traditional animal feed. Pig manure is then composted and used to enrich the soil, completing the cycle of sustainability and supporting further farming endeavours.

For the farmers we work with, this is a win-win. Not only does it cut down on feed costs, but it also helps reduce the environmental impact of cocoa production. By using what’s readily available and abundant, the pods support the local farming community while ensuring nothing goes to waste.



A Win for the Environment, a Win for Farmers

The benefits of this initiative extend beyond just the pigs. By repurposing cocoa pods, the farmers keep costs low while maintaining sustainable farming practices. In the process, we’re contributing to healthier ecosystems by reducing the amount of waste that would otherwise end up in discarded.

It’s proof that sustainability can come in many forms. It’s not just about reducing emissions or finding alternatives to packaging—it’s also about rethinking how we use what’s already around us. The pigs who enjoy the cocoa pods become the heroes in this circular approach, helping to close the loop on waste and turning it into something beneficial for everyone.
