Trading Education v Trading!

Last week I was asked by one of the guys taking my course why I bother to provide courses when I can make more in one trade than I do from holding a course!

Although it’s a cliché, the main reason I provide the courses is it’s my way to give back to an industry that has been my true passion for the past 40+ years. Becoming a senior trader at the age of 22 really set me up on my journey and gave me the confidence to start my own prop company 35 years ago. I have also been a Market Maker across multiple asset classes for the major global exchanges London, U.S and Italy.

It's in my nature to help people so putting that together with passing on my extensive knowledge and trading skills seemed natural and its why I started doing it over a decade ago.  Preventing individuals from making expensive mistakes and helping them understand how the markets operate and how to trade them is really satisfying. The number of times I hear “Chris, I wish I had met you a year ago”! Passing on my trading techniques helps remove some of the timing issues traders experience. Trading strategies (more for commodities) allows us to decide how much volatility we are comfortable within a trade and allows us to manage the risk better, offering us the ability to increase as well as decrease the volatility, and therefore the risk too.

I always start with some basics to ensure individuals are grounded regarding expectations, especially as not everyone has large amounts of capital to trade with. Trading is all about you and your character, are you passive or aggressive, patient or impatient and In the initial stages of trading its more about survival and helping you stay safe then slowly but surely the pieces of the jigsaw fall into place and then the best part of their journey starts. Ultimately, it’s about creating consistency to remove the damaging psychological blows that come from experiences serious losses. I have never made a million in one day but know I can over time. Building a sound trading plan helps to that create consistency and I share a couple of my proven trading signals to help them on their way.

Nobody can make you a trader except you, However, I can certainly help give you the best chance possible to make it. I guide you and show you what’s possible which includes you getting to see me trade!

I keep a few of my PnLs from over the years from the days of making 4 or 5 figures to an annual one of 7 figures (the latter was market making oil, distillates and also trading a basket of other products such as coffee, cocoa, wheat, DXE, EUR/USD and gold)!

I assist traditional exchanges by providing educational content and I also spent time consulting to the London Stock Exchange Group. I consult to digital exchanges helping them devise (securitised token) assets to list and how to attract new business to their exchange, and of course, provide education to their customers. Recently a major Scandinavian broker contacted me and asked if I would create a series of articles for their customers around trading, which I am currently in the process of preparing.

Remember, once trading enters your blood you’re hooked for life!
