Tractors in Turmoil: When Farmers Get Fed Up (And It's Not Just About the Weather)
Hi there,
As the founder of BAZ & CO, I've always had a soft spot for farmers. After all, they're the unsung heroes who put food on our tables. But lately, they've been making headlines for a different reason - taking to the streets in protest, which has seen very little publication in mainstream media.
So, what's got our farmers driving tractors through city centres and spreading, well, not just their wisdom? European governments are cutting back on diesel subsidies and other financial aids that have long supported agriculture. I'm familiar with the struggles of running a business, but I've never had to muck spread a government building to make a point!
Growing up around farms, I've seen the evolution from a "bit of everything" approach to a high-yield, supermarket-driven model. As convenient as it is to pick up a £0.15 bag of veggies, it's setting a worrying precedent for the future of farming.
But let's not be all doom and gloom. Remember Clarkson's Farm? Shows like that and better visibility for farmers in supermarkets might be the ticket to bridging the gap between city dwellers and our countryside custodians.
With protests in Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, and even my backyard in the UK, it's clear that farmers feel the squeeze. They're asking us, "Is food too cheap?" And with a staggering amount of food wastage each year, it may be time we paid a fair price for our sustenance.

It's a complex issue, and I only have some answers (unless it's about which vintage tractor to buy next). But one thing is clear: we need to support our farmers more, whether through fairer prices, understanding the actual cost of food production, or simply knowing where our food comes from.
Here's to hoping we can find a middle ground before farmers permanently trade their ploughs for protest signs.
Bye for now,
James
