On track for 40% renewable energy generation – here’s how we’re stacking up

We support thriving, productive and sustainable communities, environments and industries.
It’s a big moment for Victoria on the renewables front – 2025 is the year we have pledged to hit the target of 40% of our electricity coming from renewable sources. Let’s take a look at our track record to date.
Victoria has nation-leading renewable energy and storage targets – alongside some of the lowest energy prices in the country.
Victoria's renewable energy targets legislated in the Renewable Energy (Jobs and Investment) Act 2017 (Vic) are 25% by 2020 (achieved); 40% by 2025; 65% by 2030 and 95% by 2035. These targets include offshore wind energy generation targets, of at least 2 gigawatts (GW) of offshore generation capacity by 2032; 4 GW by 2035 and 9 GW by 2040. Victoria’s legislated energy storage targets are at least 2.6 GW of energy storage capacity by 2030 and at least 6.3 GW by 2035.
In 2020, we achieved our first target of 25% renewable electricity generation. And we’re on track to achieve our 40% goal – with 39.1% of Victoria’s electricity coming from renewable sources in 2024.
Zooming in to look at monthly achievements, both December 2024 and January 2025 have been bumper months, with 48% and 46% coming from renewable sources respectively.

?As of January 2025, our renewable energy policies and programs have helped Victoria to reach:
·?????? 5978 megawatts (MW) of commissioned large-scale wind and solar capacity
·?????? 5208 MW of small- and commercial-scale rooftop solar capacity
·?????? 740 MW of commissioned battery storage capacity
That’s enough to power more than 4 million homes.
There is also a significant amount of new capacity in the pipeline, with 8 solar and wind farms under construction, a further 80 approved and many more in the earlier stages of construction. Plus, there’s a further 12 utility-scale battery energy storage systems under construction. ??
There’s more do to – but we have a strong plan - mapping our journey to the 25 GW of new capacity needed to reach 95% of our state’s electricity being supplied by renewable energy by 2035.

2 周Presumably the percentages of overall supply reflect the growing need for energy with time, i.e 50% in 2025 and 50% in 2045 is not the same - the percentage of EV grows , gas is being phased out by pricing (and possibly supply) , hopefully we will have some industry growth and the digital industries require ever higher power supplies. What is the predicted need for power supply growth?
