Somewhere in all our lives lies a thread, a story that connects where we’ve been to where we’re going. For me, that thread is mental health. My journey to building MindLink.hQ is deeply personal, shaped by struggles I’ve lived through, lessons I’ve learned, and a spark of inspiration that came at just the right time. This is the story of how I went from being a struggling student trying to find her way to creating a platform that could change the lives of many. It’s a story of growth, resilience, and the incredible power of purpose.
Imagine this: you’re a fresh-faced university student, stepping into a new chapter of your life. Everyone says it’s supposed to be exciting, but for you, it’s overwhelming. You’re in a sea of unfamiliar faces, dealing with social anxiety, and feeling completely out of place. You sit in class, unable to speak, unsure how to connect with anyone. The weight of it all is crushing.
That was me.
I came to university with excellent grades, but the transition was so hard, it felt like I was failing at life. I didn’t have friends I could turn to, my roommates were great, but they were in different departments, studying different courses. And asking for help? That wasn’t an option. I was battling my own mind while trying to keep up with everything else.
Things started to spiral. I deferred my program, came back, flunked, and deferred again. It felt like I was stuck in a loop of failure. I kept wondering, “How did I get here?”?
Then, there was this moment. I was running late for an exam, 10 minutes in and when I got to the hall, the lecturer wouldn’t let me in. She yelled, quiet intensely right there in front of everyone, I froze. For someone with social anxiety, it felt like the world was caving in. All I wanted was to disappear. But in that same moment, I realized something: she didn’t know what I was going through. Maybe she was struggling too. Perhaps her reaction came from a place of her own stress or pain. That was the first time I realized how much compassion matters and how little of it we’re often taught to show one another.
That’s when it hit me: mental health doesn’t just affect students like me. It touches everyone, students, teachers, parents. And yet, no one talks about it. No one creates space for it.
That’s why we do what we do at MindLink.hQ
??????????????Finding My Purpose
Fast forward to a few years later, when I stumbled upon the ALX Virtual Assistant program. At the time, I was just looking to pick up some skills like data entry, organization, and basic business know-how. I didn’t expect it to be life-changing. But as I wrote in my previous article, I encountered Fred Swaniker, the founder of ALX and an article he wrote about leveraging AI and later during our graduation ceremony, he posed three questions about identifying one’s purpose that resonated deeply with me:
It was like a lightbulb moment. My vision for creating a space where mental health is prioritized and accessible to everyone checked all three boxes. I didn’t need a PhD or a fancy building like I initially planned to start making a difference. I could start now, while still advancing in my education.
And so, MindLink.hQ was born, this isn’t just a business, it’s a lifeline. I’m using technology to bridge the gap I experienced during my own struggles. It’s a community where students can find the support they need. It's not just about therapy; it’s about creating safe spaces, raising awareness, and fostering compassion. It’s about educating both students and teachers on how to support one another.

We’re embedding mental health directly into the education system, helping not just students but educators and institutions navigate the complexities of mental health.?
??Education is one of the world’s major challenges and the statistics highlight the critical need for innovative solutions and that is why I chose education, because it’s where so many of us spend the most critical years of our lives. It’s where young minds are shaped, where our future begins, laying the foundation for our careers and setting us up financially and yet it’s also where struggles are often overlooked. If we can make even a small difference here helping students navigate life while thriving academically, then we’re creating a better future, one step at a time.
A lot of the time, the mental health challenges we face in school aren’t entirely because of the education system or academic pressures. Often, it’s the external factors, issues with trauma, family, friends, relationships, or struggles from home that weigh us down. These things take up so much space in our minds that we’re left with little to focus on what truly matters: our education.
This is where we step in. We help you navigate the complexities of life outside academics, those overwhelming emotions and personal battles, so they don’t affect your ability to thrive academically. By providing a safe space to process, heal, and grow, MindLink.hQ ensures that you can focus on your future while finding balance in the present.
I know what it’s like to feel invisible, to feel like no one gets it. That is why MindLink.hQ exists, to make sure no one has to go through that alone. For me, this is personal.?
So, I ask you: What if we could create a world where every student, every teacher, feels seen, heard, and supported??
??????????The Journey Ahead
Looking back, it’s incredible to see how everything, my struggles, my moments of despair, and my small steps forward led to this point. This mission is fueled by purpose.
As we continue to grow, my hope is that MindLink.hQ will not only help individuals but also inspire a cultural shift in how we view mental health especially on a continent where it’s often overlooked.
What If Your Struggles Were Preparing You for Your Greatest Purpose?
Mine is for this very purpose, to break the cycle of silence and shame, and create a culture where mental health is treated with the same urgency and care as physical health.
To anyone reading this who’s struggling: you are not alone. And to anyone with a dream: start now. You don’t need to have all the answers. Sometimes, the journey itself reveals the path.
This is where MindLink began. And it’s only the beginning…….
