Trace Structural Investigations

Trace Structural Investigations

Our mission is to promote the value of non-intrusive technology for structural investigations

This is our ethos and what we work towards. There is an over reliance on smashing holes in buildings that can be reduced using non-intrusive methods. These methods provide specialist surveys and investigations that provide a greater depth of information. This lets us improve the deliverable to clients.

We want to support others in the industry and the end clients through project consultation and the creation of bespoke investigations.

What we see

When it comes to structural investigations scopes and works there is the requirement for more cores, scabbling or breaking out than is needed. If there is a requirement for non-intrusive works, it’s very limited and produces reports that just show data. This seems to be the norm and how it has always been done. Smash the building up and non-intrusive technology is only used to be able to cover small sections at a time, 600x600mm is still commonly requested.

What about the rest of the structure – is there a different way?

Trace believes in a holistic non-intrusive approach to structural investigations. We provide comprehensive scanning of a building or structure to fully understand how its built. This can involve collection NDT data over grids that can be tens or hundreds of meters and thousands of scans, or targeted gris backed up with “overview scans”. Scans are collected throughout the building on walls, floors, beams, and columns to ensure that we understand both the general construction details but also the connection details and variations. Thanks to modern systems this only takes a day or a week. From the non-intrusive data targeted breakouts and cores are completed to support the data collected. No need to take 100 cores.

Trace’s expert team work with yours to consult and support your works. We can be on site to support and train your staff then process, analyse, and interpret the collected data, off site. Taking the huge amount of data collected and distilling it down to the required information. This is then presented in a detailed investigation report along with CAD drawings, cross sections, and models. Everything the client’s needs to fully understand the structure.
