TQI QuickBits -- This Is Your Brain on Quantum, PsiQuantum's Big Check... And More Quantum News

It's been a week of big numbers for quantum.

PsiQuantum's $22.5 million contract is one of the largest such investments. Besides a lot of zeroes, it spotlights the seriousness and the commitment that quantum is inspiring among organizations and agencies. It shows that quantum is not just a viable technology -- it's a disruptive technology that must be, in parts, unleashed and tamed.

Also, big congrats to QuantrolOx , which?raised up to €10.5 million from the European Innovation Council (EIC).

Also. Turns out. My brain may be quantum computer and it just informed me that it's setting up a Series A fund round at a $100 million valuation. Potential investors are welcome to set up meetings with my quantum brain at their convenience.

PsiQuantum landed a huge contract with the Air Force Research Lab. At $22.5 million it may be the largest government investments in quantum. It may be a boost for quantum photonics, says PsiQuantum co-founder and CEO Jeremy O’Brien.

“Now, as the world is converging on the conclusion that useful applications will require large-scale systems involving networking and mature semiconductor manufacturing, photonics is coming to the fore in the global race for utility-scale quantum computing. We are working with the group at AFRL, who are distinguished in having long been fellow travelers in the field of quantum photonics. This is a very exciting contract, and we are delighted to have established this partnership.” -- Jeremy O'Brien

Could quantum processes explain some of the brain's unusual ability to perform calculations? A team of Trinity College researchers say they've uncovered evidence supporting a theory that quantum mechanics -- specifically quantum gravity -- may be behind the brain's supercomputer-like powers.

“Quantum?brain?processes could explain why we can still outperform supercomputers when it comes to unforeseen circumstances, decision making, or learning something new. Our experiments, performed only 50 meters away from the lecture theater where Schr?dinger presented his famous thoughts about life, may shed light on the mysteries of biology, and on consciousness which scientifically is even harder to grasp.” -- Dr. Christian Kerskens, lead physicist at the Trinity College Institute of Neuroscience (TCIN)
