TQI QuickBits: Strangeworks Works, Insights on China's Quantum Tech Progress.. And More Quantum News

Three years ago I compared Strangeworks and its place in the Austin-based startup scene to the mid-1970s punk rock scene in London. Hey. I was new and maybe the comparison was a bit forced, but I still stand by the idea that this startup took a three-chords-and-the-truth approach to the sometimes timid, other times hypey and most times academic-laden quantum space.

I mean, who else adds this to their company summary: "Do epic sh*t today, and prepare for quantum advantage tomorrow"? Brilliant.

With their $24 million Series A, let me make another comparison that I'll most likely self-label as ham-fisted three years from now -- Strangeworks is moving toward their Clash London Calling-era moment. A time where passion meets precision meets timing meets market.

We look forward to watching what epic sh*t Strangeworks will be doing next.

Strangeworks notched a $24 million Series A. The company is more than a quantum startup. It's a flag-bearer for ethical, edgy, passionate, user-focused, people-powered quantum computing. The startup's main flag-bearer whurley explains why this Series A is so important.

“Five years ago, I took the stage at SXSW for our first quantum computing keynote. Since that day this team has stayed focused on our core mission, continuously beating industry expectations while utilizing only a fraction of the resources compared to the industry. Raising the Series A from these exceptional investors in this challenging economic climate sends a clear message to the market on where enterprise companies are placing their bets in the race to create quantum value.” -- Strangeworks founder and CEO whurley

The UK's announcement that it's investing £2.5 billion in quantum is still echoing around the quantum-sphere. This week, Roger McKinlay of the UK National Quantum Technologies Programme, gave his take on the initiative.

"The mission approach being adopted by the government is important.?This is about driving for impact and benefits in the face of scientific challenges, technical risks and wide areas of complexity and uncertainty.?This will require joined-up government action.?The UK National Programme has benefited from close co-operation, not only within UK Research and Innovation but also with the other programme partners such as the Ministry of Defence and GCHQ." -- Roger McKinlay, UK National Quantum Technologies Programme

Quantum Research -- Error-Correction Advance

Latest report on error correction advance. Real-time quantum error correction beyond break-even. A Google Quantum AI-led team of researchers demonstrated a fully stabilized and error-corrected logical qubit whose quantum coherence is substantially longer than that of all the imperfect quantum components involved in the quantum error correction process. The new qubit beat the best of them with a coherence gain of?G = 2.27 ± 0.07.
