TQI QuickBits -- Is Practical Quantum Computing Closer? D-Wave's New Prototype... And More News in Quantum

When you report on quantum technologies, you live with the sense that the next great idea, the next amazing technology, the next great solution is out there. And you live with the realization that maybe the brilliant team trying to bring this idea into reality needs some help.

That's why we are particularly happy to be part of the Airbus - 宝马 Quantum Computing Challenge -- The Quantum Mobility Quest.

We would like to make sure all of the teams and potential teams out there know that portal is up and ready to receive your entry to use quantum computers to help solve transportation's most vexing problems.

Speaking of brilliant ideas... Congratulations to Alice & Bob and Terra Quantum AG for their interesting research findings. Alice & Bob released a study on an impressive new approach to handling error correction and Terra Quantum published a cool piece of research on room-temperature superconductivity in graphite.

For those stories and more, look below.

Quantum Quotes

An Alice & Bob-led team of researchers reports on a study that suggests a path toward quantum error correction that will allow the operation of 100 high-fidelity logical qubits (with an error rate of 10-8) with as little as 1,500 physical cat qubits. That's important because this is the area where many experts suggest that practical quantum computing will arise.

“This new architecture using LDPC codes and cat qubits could run Shor’s algorithm with less than 100,000 physical qubits, a 200-fold improvement over competing approaches’ 20 million qubit requirement. Our approach makes quantum computers more realistic in terms of time, cost and energy consumption, demonstrating our continued commitment to advancing the path to impactful quantum computing with error corrected, logical qubits.” -- Théau Peronnin, CEO of Alice & Bob

New Mexico scientists played a pioneering role in the development of Quantum Informational Science; now The University of New Mexico (UNM) is partnering with Sandia National Laboratories to launch the University’s newest research center, the Quantum New Mexico Institute (QNM-I).

“Our vision is to make New Mexico a destination for quantum companies and scientists across the world." -- Setso Metodi, QNM-I co-director and Sandia Labs manager of quantum computer science.
