TOYOTA HAS RECENTLY LAUNCHED THE MILD-HYBRID VERSION OF THE HILUX IN EUROPE
The 2.8-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel engine will be retained in the Hilux MHEV, but it will be improved with a 48-volt mild hybrid system.
Toyota has released a mild-hybrid version of the Hilux in the European market following successful prototype testing in Africa. The 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine has been modified with a 48-volt mild hybrid system to boost fuel economy and driving performance.

This configuration, which includes the turbodiesel engine, a tiny electric motor, and a 48-volt battery, is believed to be operated by a 6-speed automatic transmission, though specifics have not been published.

Toyota claims “enhanced on- and off-road performance,” but there is no sacrifice on towing and payload capacity, which remain at 3,500 kg and 1,000 kg, respectively. The mild-hybrid setup’s component location allows for a 700 mm water-wading depth.
