Toyota and Daihatsu dominated Indonesia domestic market with total 52.5% market share

According to Gaikindo data, wholesales basis, from January 2024 to November 2024 there is 784.788 vehicles (4 wheelers and more) that sold in Indonesia. ?Defending Champion, Toyota achieves 262.315 units sold or 33.4% market share while Daihatsu becoming runner-up with 149.975 units sold or 19.1% market shares. If we combine dynamic duo titans from Astra Group, it will be 412.290 units sold or 52.5% market share, splendid! Honda, once is Toyota’s nemesis, sit in third place with 86.350 units sold, means Toyota has more than 3 times volume sales than Honda while Daihatsu has 1,73 times volume sales compare to Honda. Means, Toyota and Daihatsu really dominated Indonesia domestic market.

Toyota and Daihatsu still strong even many new brands enter to Indonesia, mostly Chinese brands that more focus on BEV segment as Government pour so many incentives to boost BEV segment, which is big advantage for BEV players. However, now customer also becoming more rational and selective. Not only customer, financial and insurance company seems becoming more prudent and selective when support BEV segment. ?

On the other hands, Toyota play smart strategy by penetrate hybrid segment, which is compares to BEV, seems more fit to ecosystem in Indonesia. While so many OEM/ NSC swim in same BEV pool, Toyota boost its electrification product line and becoming leader in Hybrid segment. Now when some OEM/NSC want to boost its hybrid product line as well, especially after government provides incentive for this segment too, but seems Toyota will be untouchable thanks to its great reputation in Hybrid technology. Also in commercial vehicles, Toyota also launched Hilux Rangga that becoming new icon in commercial segment. With Hilux Rangga, Toyota want to recreate the legend Kijang Pick Up and plays total domination in Indonesia market. With tagline “It’s time for everyone to advance everywhere” Toyota really send strong message to its competitor.

While Daihatsu, has great reputation to offers great vehicles with competitive price. From Daihatsu Sigra to Gran Max Pick Up, Daihatsu becoming great choice for customer from this segment. With tagline Daihatsu Sahabatku (Daihatsu is my best friend), it already great statement and promises for customer.

Top of the mind brand, smart strategy, great customer experiences, big dealer network, top notch standard from end to end - sales, logistic, after sales-, great resale value and loyal customer based are some factors that makes Toyota and Daihatsu very strong in Indonesia.

Great information pa, in 2025 is very chalenging market but we still optimis even some tax regulation (Opsen) is not support the increasing volume of the market. We believe central governmen soon will anounce the incentive to support & bost the automotive industry by reducing the PPNBM

That clearly shows that Toyota and Daihatsu understand perfectly the Indonesian market. Japanese brands are there to stay.

Hi Pak Daniel, what do you think about next year's outlook for the Indonesian automotive market as overall vehicle sales volume @ 2024 dips at least 25 to 30% YTD
