Tough Goat
I want to tell you an interesting story about my team and a goat:
The heroes of our story are Enver, our wildlife technician, and Yunus (Borusan-ENBW), who is also a wildlife technician, at the Ispir Ver?enik Mountain Wildlife Development Field, where our Arkun Power Plant is located. Enver and Yunus had arrived at the wild goats caught in their routine check every morning in the past months. Yes, we catch wild goats and attach transmitters to them. Because the wild goat is defined as a species that should be taken under protection in international conventions to which our country is a party. In accordance with the legal responsibility we take, we install GPS-GSM transmitters on wild goats as part of our studies for monitoring the wildlife - ecosystem in this region.
You may ask, "Why?":
To document their behavior patterns,
To find out how much they walk monthly, seasonally and annually,
To determine whether they have immigrated,
To determine how they move at what temperatures and
To determine their nutrition habits…
Anyway, let's get back to the story: Enver and Yunus had caught a 3-4 month old baby goat that morning, but they immediately released the baby because their aim is to catch male goats over 3 years old. When they reached the next catch point, they saw that they caught an adult and a baby goat. The adult goat looked like a male, and it was quite surprising and important to catch a male there during this season because it was very rare for males to appear in the lower elevations before planting in that area. When they were visible to the goats, they started walking slowly to avoid stress on both animals. The closer they got, the more it became clear that the adult was a male. They had to take control of the male as soon as possible and release the baby immediately. First they released the baby to nature. It was the “escape time” for the male goat, but Enver and Yunus were determined. Although it was difficult, they took control of the male goat. They took out the transmitter's magnets and installed the equipment.
But the it was far from over! The animal had to be released and filmed as soon as possible without any harm, but the goat was stubborn! Naturally, the video shooting ended before it started and male goat was left to nature with its transmitter attached. The first signal started to be expected. It is one of the most beautiful moments when the first signal arrives and the monitoring begins.
I listened to the story like it was a thriller movie and once again felt that working diligently at Enerjisa üretim is in our nature . Once again, I have a great respect for all my teammates who work closely with the nature.
By the way, guys named the goat “Tough”, may he live with his name!
Note: All activities in the field are carried out and reported under the coordination of the General Directorate within the framework of the commitment given to the General Directorate of Nature Conservation and National Parks.
