Tough Day for Houses!
It’s a pretty safe bet that if you drive your vehicle into the side of a house set back from the road it fronts, you are doing something seriously wrong. At about 12:30 am on Wednesday, April 6th, the resident of a home in the 9500 block of Blackhawk Blvd. near Misty Vale in southeast Houston was rudely awakened when an adult male driver slammed his vehicle through the front wall of the home’s living room. HPD officers on the scene reported that the driver was traveling north on Blackhawk at a high rate of speed when he hit a median curb and blew out a tire. The driver lost control and first hit an approximately one-ton rock, which had been placed in the front yard to protect the house from just this sort of problem, with such force that the rock was thrown across the yard, after which the vehicle then blew right into the house, buried past the driver’s door. HFD firefighters had to extricate the driver from the wreckage and he was transported to an area hospital in serious condition. Fortunately, no one inside the home was injured, but damage to the home was extensive. Police indicate that alcohol likely played a role in the crash and, if confirmed by hospital blood tests, the driver faces charges, (to say nothing of a hefty damage suit). Then, about six hours later, shortly before 7:00 am, a private charter school bus crashed into the front of a residence on Golden Glen, in Alief. The resident of that home was inside that house too, but was uninjured. Initial reports of this incident didn’t indicate that kids were on the bus and there were no reported injuries on board. However, investigation continues as to the cause.
Soooo… if you thought that no matter what might be going on outside in big old Houston, at least you were safe in your own home, you might want to re-evaluate that particular security illusion. When disaster wants to find you, it always seems to find a way. Sleep tight folks!
