Touching Words Of Thanks

Unfortunately the temps dropped overnight, but at least we didn't get any snow. Another day of gray skies wasn't the most welcome, as we've been having quite the string of them of late, so hopefully one day soon, we'll be seeing the sun again.

Due to this year's Christmas being on a Monday, I was having to catch myself nearly the entire day as reminder it was Tuesday instead. Some of the government offices were closed, while others were open, along with the banks, so it was pretty much a regular day, with the exception of there being no real estate calls coming in.

Most of my day was spent tidying up my office, paying bills, and getting picture frame measurements of a group of very old photos I've had in storage for over 13 years which I had framed and hanging in both of Holtz Realty's previous offices, and the reason I didn't hang them in my current office, is because I absolutely hated the frames they were in which were made by a long-deceased man who 'insisted' he could make frames for them, so I agreed. Well, when they were delivered with his bill, I went ahead and paid him and later hung them, but all the while, I deeply disliked those poorly-made frames painted black, so when I moved my office over to its new location, I removed each and every one of those black and white photos, and sent those disgusting frames to the dumpster.

I now have hanging on one of my tall walls, two vintage black and white photos of my parents which I had blown up and custom framed, and since I've been getting good comments about them, I became all the more insistent on getting those historic black and white photos of our Historic Downtown re-framed and hung, and for sure I'll have custom-created the same frames as my parents, just so they all match. The one photo I've missed seeing the most, is of a young gentleman who's seated on a white horse that's drinking out of a public fountain. For the strangest reason, whenever I'd happen to look at it, I would be reminded of those long-ago days when I was young, had my own horse, and slightly good-looking. All those other photos are very nice, but the young man on a horse is my absolute favorite, and when it gets re-hung, I'll make sure it's in my normal field of vision while at office.

When the mail arrived, I noticed I'd already received a 'thank you' card from one of the seniors I'd gifted before Christmas. After reading it, I was nearly drawn to tears by her touching words of thanks. Yes, there are a whole heck of a lot of elderly people living in our midst who truly appreciate the little extras we freely do for them, and wouldn't you know, just before closing up shop, I received a call from another one I'd gifted, and once again, there were many words of thanks offered. Of course they all knew most of what I'd given them were home-made which evidently impressed them even more. Yes, the bulk of our older ones are those who understand how much work it is to make goodies from scratch. I may seem overly-sentimental when saying I've been keeping those notes of thanks every year, just as a reminder of how some, truly appreciate gifts from the heart.

As much as I wanted 315 Parkridge Drive sold before Christmas, it didn't happen, so please say a little prayer I get it sold soon. What angers me the most about some of the comments from other agents' buyers, is they like the home, but are turned off by the subtle smell of cigarette smoke. Well, getting rid of that smell, is about the easiest because I've done it time and time again, and that's all that's needed is to wash all cabinets, woodwork, walls and ceilings, have the carpets shampooed, get rid of any window fabric, and wash the windows. That's it!

I'll never forget as long as I live, a 'reli' of mine having a fit about a house they just purchased which had an intense odor of cigarette smoke, so yours truly spent several days washing woodwork and ceilings, just to keep them from turning into raving maniacs over it. Good heavens! It wasn't as if they were infested with bedbugs or fleas, which for me, would've become an uphill battle to get rid of them. That was yet one more example of 'No good deed goes un-punished.' Oh, the stories I could tell.

With it looking to be a slow week, I may take several hours off in the morning to work on another side project which will require some cleaning and general maintenance, but likely the most tedious will be getting paint splats removed from a hardwood floor which just about set me reeling when first seeing it. Of course that'll be another un-told story about those who 'think' they know how to do something, but in the end, haven't a clue.

Another little job I had today, was to get all the keys on my office piano completely cleaned which had gone un-noticed until today. I definitely don't play it with dirty hands and fingers, but the oil from a person's hands combined with super-fine dust, does build up over time. Yes, they're now looking pearly-white and smooth as silk.

Before heading home, I stopped at the West Hy-Vee to pick up a few things, and since another past customer recently passed, I went to their card rack to pick out a sympathy card, and believe it or not, they were all sold out just like Dollar General. My gosh! What's that all about? I know we've been having more deaths of late, but I wouldn't think there were that many. Oh well, I'll have to run over to Fareway in the morning to get one from their rack if they still have any left.

Up until very late last night, I was getting text messages from various people wishing my happy holidays, so if I happened to forget about you, "Happy Holidays!"

Tonight's One-liner is: Words empty as the wind, are best left unsaid.
