After two years of working on getting approved as a 501c3 nonprofit, and multiple IRS delays due to COVID-19, we are finally official!?Today we launch the Touchdown Foundation with the goal of raising support to fund water wells in 18 different countries around the globe!
About ten years ago during a two-a-day high school football practice in the scorching Illinois?heat, I vividly remember drinking water during practice and thinking about other people in the world who didn't have the same access to clean drinking as I did. I remember thinking that it was crazy, in this day and age, with all of our technology, that people still die from a lack of clean drinking water.?
After doing more research, I found that a staggering number of people walk miles each day to find a clean water source, and that globally, women and children spend around 200 million hours per day walking to collect water. In addition, approximately 840,000 people die each year globally from not having clean drinking water. That is a huge number and pretty overwhelming when you really take time to consider the magnitude of this problem. Since we don't experience this problem in the U.S. it is easy to look at those stats and think that nothing can be done, especially since most of these countries are located so far away.?
But our team at the Touchdown foundation is excited to help make a difference and to provide a tangible way for others to get involved. Even if we can't give all 840,000 people clean drinking water, we can strive to provide water for as many people as we can. If one person receives clean drinking water, we'll consider this nonprofit a success.?
Our main?fundraising strategy is to leverage?football, which we are so passionate about, to provide these much needed funds.?We partner?with businesses and individual donors who pledge a monetary amount per touchdown scored during a football season. Whether a high school, college, or pro team;?at the end of the year, the tax-deductible gift is used to fund a water well. In partnership with Living Water International, we will serve 18 different countries in our effort to build as many wells as possible. (See a complete list of countries at www.TouchdownFoundation.org) The cost of each well is around $5,000, which is surprisingly?low considering the great impact of each well.?

It took me over 10 years to finally pursue this idea, and I regretfully think about all the lives that we could have impacted during that time period, had we started sooner; but it excites?me to think about the number of people we will be able to impact in these remote communities over the next 10 years!?
If you feel led to give money to fully fund a well or if you know of businesses or schools that might be interested in sponsoring a football team and pledging money per touchdown, please visit our website at www.TouchdownFoundation.org?to learn more. Thanks so much for your support as we begin this?new journey!
