Every story in my opinion is not only there to enjoy, but also there to learn something from. I learnt from the tortoise and the hare.
What is this story?
"There once was a speedy hare who bragged about how fast he could run. Tired of hearing him boast, Slow and Steady, the tortoise, challenged him to a race. All the animals in the forest gathered to watch.
Hare ran down the road for a while and then and paused to rest. He looked back at Slow and Steady and cried out, "How do you expect to win this race when you are walking along at your slow, slow pace?"
Hare stretched himself out alongside the road and fell asleep, thinking, "There is plenty of time to relax."
Slow and Steady walked and walked. He never, ever stopped until he came to the finish line.
The animals who were watching cheered so loudly for Tortoise, they woke up Hare.
Hare stretched and yawned and began to run again, but it was too late. Tortoise was over the line.
After that, Hare always reminded himself, "Don't brag about your lightning pace, for Slow and Steady won the race!" "
Why do I like this story and what do I learn?
- It learnt me to not be bothered by others' pace, what they have achieved, or ever thinking that I am not where others are.
- Whenever you keep going steady, bit by bit, without giving up, eventually there will be a result. For example, when you read Oprah's journey, she had ups and downs and peaked later in life, and is still going strong.
- So, I learnt not to rush. Though I like to see immediate results.. I do my best to have patience. I do go for a goal. In this way I work more relaxed towards any goals and even go faster than I expect. And even if it does not go fast, I have faith in the work already done.
- The tortoise was not jealous of the hare's speed, he was not afraid of him, instead he used his brains and bravely challenged the hare, risking he might not win the race. Slow and steady and had confidence.
I read and heard this story more than once when I was a child. I could not grasp it, but how did the tortoise do it? How could he still win? He must be some super tortoise!
I am learning and understanding.
