The topper belongs to which institute? After JEE and NEET, the same trends continue in SSC.

Mrs Indira Gandhi, the ex-Prime Minister of India once quoted that “my grandfather once told me that there are two kinds of people: those who do the work and those who take the credit.” In politics there is never ending debate over taking credits. This is not limited to politics, the fight for credits is prevalent in other industries too. We can observe these debates over credit from cricketers to actors and from activists to educational institutions.?

The success of a coaching programme is measured by its final results. Many parents and students seek institutions which the topper students have attended. Because of this, competition among coachings for getting top ranks is fierce. Teachers sometimes use the promise of rewards to encourage students to achieve top ranks. Similarly, entrance tests were administered all over the country by coaching institutes with the aim of identifying and selecting the most promising young students for full or partial academic scholarships.?

In 2017, a district court in Chandigarh issued a notice to Sri Chaitanya Educational Institution, Chandigarh (SCEI) for allegedly taking credit for the success of many toppers this season, including Sarvesh Mehtani (JEE Advanced 2017 rank 1), who was tutored by its rival Lakshya Institute. Moreover, SCEI has been accused of using the trademark and trade name of Lakshya Institute. Sarvesh also clarified that he attended Lakshya Institute.?

ALLEN , Aakash, and Narayana Medical Academy placed full-page ads in major English newspapers in 2022 featuring NEET topper Tanishka. Allen Coaching Institute's commercial appeared on September 14, Narayana Medical Academy on September 11. Aakash's September 9 advertisement claimed credit for coaching Tanishka first. Rishabh Kumar acquired the AIR 1 ranking in the SSC CGL 2021 (results announced in 2023) exam. He claimed that he studied using a paid subscription to the " Careerwill " app, which is owned by Rakesh Yadav. Soon after, KD CAMPUS PRIVATE LIMITED owner Neetu Singh released a video claiming Rishabh was a student of her institute and took INR 15 Lakhs to give credit to others. One of the teachers, named Abhinay, shared a funny video on the incident saying that Rakesh Yadav is giving pre-training to his students for corruption.

With his comment, "Those that claim I'm enticing students by announcing Thar for toppers are the ones who are buying toppers.", Aditya Ranjan, founder of Rankers Gurukul, sparked yet another fight. A maths teacher at Career Will App named Gagan Pratap issued a severe personal attack on Mr Aditya, claiming that the latter could not answer even 40 questions correctly on the CDS exam. Mr. Aditya then responded by showing evidence that he had passed the test three times.

It's unfortunate that the idols of students are fighting among themselves and making personal comments on each other. Furthermore, if they have evidence, they should go to court rather than making allegations on YouTube. The same logic applies to the institution's own topper; they can't take all the credit for the students' efforts. The issue is that all of these teachers have millions of YouTube subscribers, and a significant number of students rely on them for assistance in pursuing their dreams.?

Due to the low cost of SSC online courses, the majority of students purchase two or more courses, or if they do not purchase, they explore various teachers for different subjects on YouTube. Due to the lack of face-to-face contact, teachers in online courses frequently fail to recognise their students. It makes it easier for coachings to claim toppers.?

Due to their difficulty, it is nearly impossible to top in JEE and NEET without offline coachings. It is also easy to predict toppers in these exams and hence they get special attention. Here those teachers should actually be given credit. But then other coachings claim that toppers have taken distance learning courses from them. Sometimes these teachers who taught toppers change the institution. Some also help toppers with short term courses. They all try to take the credit. Many allege that these coachings show fake DLP (Distance Learning Program) students by bribing them.?

Students in SSC now have to pick teachers without reference to toppers, but by watching online lectures on YouTube. Rather than focusing on teachers who want popularity through controversy, they should seek out those who can teach them values beyond merely exam preparation. For JEE and NEET, students should not get tempted by giant posters rather take advice from experienced people and do good research.?
