Topical Authority in SEO: How to Achieve the Best Results

Topical Authority in SEO: How to Achieve the Best Results

People have been talking about Topical Authority for two years. There are even courses and experts on LinkedIn. But, not many are using it right.

Let's look at a blog from a typical IT outsourcing company.

IT outsourcing company

It has articles on different topics like:

Software Code Audit
Building a Money Transfer App
Creating a Hotel Booking Website
Making Hospital Management Software
Real Estate CRM Software Development

At First Glance, Everything Looks Good.

One day you write about a money transfer app, the next day about hospital software, and next month about fintech software.

You might even link the fintech article to the money transfer one, thinking it creates a topic cluster.

There are a few problems with this.

  1. If you keep switching between different topics, it might take you several years to create solid topic clusters.
  2. If you write about different topics, it can make your topic authority less clear for Google and reduce your SEO success.

So, here’s my advice:

Focus on one main area. If the company is good at healthcare software, then write about that. Create topic clusters like medical billing and remote patient monitoring.

But what if you are an expert in different fields?

Focus on creating separate, well-structured content clusters for each of your expertise areas.

First, complete one content cluster on your website, for example:?

yoursite(.com)/health/article-1
...?
yoursite(.com)/health/article-44

Only after you've finished should you move to another topic,?

like

yoursite(.com)/fintech/article-1
...?
yoursite(.com)/fintech/article-59

It helps Google see and understand the topic authority faster.

This way, you can build and maintain topic authority in multiple domains without diluting your SEO impact.

A good example is the website osplabs(.com).

If you check their sitemap at osplabs(.com)/post-sitemap.xml, you’ll see almost 300 articles all about healthcare software development.

Because of this, they rank high on Google for healthcare software development and similar keywords.

If you have expertise in different domains, I recommend looking at the website scnsoft(.com) and how they've organized clusters for various domains.

They have over 19 pieces of content in the blockchain domain at scnsoft(.com)/blockchain/.

And over 150 pieces of content in the ecommerce domain at scnsoft(.com)/ecommerce/.

As a result, the company ranks in the top 3 for many search queries:

Thanks to a well-planned structure, there is a landing page corresponding to each search query.

FAQ

1) Why Is It Better to Create Clusters One by One Instead of All at Once?

When you build clusters sequentially, you start seeing results much faster compared to attempting to construct multiple clusters simultaneously.

2) How quickly should you create a cluster?

As quickly as you can. If you can write 100 high-quality articles in a week, go for it. Google will recognize your expertise faster.

Additionally, if you stretch the article writing process over an entire year, the first articles you wrote might become outdated and require updates. So, the sooner you create the articles and complete the cluster, the better.

3) Is there official information from Google?

JohnMu from #Google said this no longer matters. Although he has previously given inaccurate information on links - and clearly links and domain authority still plays a big role, on this particular topic, based on tests, he seems more correct. What Dmytro is absolutely right about regardless of what Google says: is that if you pick the longtail of LOW KD keywords within a subject area, you will win - and this is because competition is low for good answers. So you would win by having let's say 150 pages of intent specific low KD content, whose sum exceeds the volume of the high KD which is too competitive and lacks intent.

What a great piece of advice! Webmasters may think that covering all topics at once will diversify their content and reach thus helping them to rank better. However, it’s the opposite. ??

Great tips. If I had known this a few years ago, it would have saved me a lot of time.
