This is Topic Tuesday, where we focus on a specific topic related to business, or just life in general. This week, we’re talking about how to prepare for the outcomes you want, so let’s get into it!
Success requires just the right mix of ingredients. Among other things, you need self-belief, an objective worth the effort, and the ability to learn from your mistakes. If you start with these things in your arsenal, chances are you’re giving yourself the tools to achieve the successes you crave and deserve.
But if you’re limited in any area, your determination might still get you where you need to be. Eventually, you’ll need to grow past those restrictions to reach the happiness you deserve. Today, let’s talk about three ways to maintain focus on your goals, even in the face of trouble.
1. Remember Why You Started
I have a passion for helping people reach their goals. Some of the most driven people I’ve worked with happen to be trained athletes. Their ability to execute well on a football field or on a basketball court depends in part on their natural talent, but talent takes anyone only so far. Any of my patients will tell you: on top of G-d given talent, you’ve got to be able to push through pain, if necessary, to reach the prize beyond the threshold of your comforts.
When it hurts is when you’ll ask yourself: What am I doing here? Why am I putting myself through this?
And when that question forms in your troubled mind, always remember why you started your journey in the first place.

2. Focus On What You Can Do
As anyone who knows me can attest to, I prefer when things work out as planned. But in business as in life, circumstances are often subject to change without warning or apology. How do I stay so motivated, even in the face of setbacks?
Well, when you’re in a seemingly hopeless situation, desperate thoughts might creep into your psyche. Although it’s natural to have doubts when times are hard, it’s important not to lose sight of what you can control. Remember: stay calm. Take inventory of what’s at your disposal; you just might find the first rung on the ladder to salvation!
3. Never Give Up!
Victory isn’t certain until it’s actually won. Even when you’re on the perfect path, with all the right preparation, a guarantee in life is a rare and precious gem. What you think is a sure thing at one point might just turn out to be an entirely new level of difficulty to navigate in the grand scheme of things. No matter what the path reveals, don’t let anything stop you. To get to the end, you’ve got to be willing to pick up the pieces of what you thought were your “failures” and build the vessel of your ultimate success.
If there’s one thing I could leave you with today, that one thing is this: it’s one thing to want success, and it’s another to go about the business of achieving it. When you wake up in the morning, choose to succeed. But don’t just make the decision; make preparations.
