Topic: Time to Pause and Think

Hey folks! Long time no write! Goodness things have been busy - which makes this next topic shine a bit more.

Question: Interesting venture you are taking. What motivated it for you?

This was one of the first questions I received when setting up this AMA adventure. I decided tackle this, as its top of mind.

Quick response: I decided to welcome questions because I find that people don’t really have the time to pause and think.

They ask the question. I take on the challenge of a thoughtful first response - and then they can chime in with thoughts. It kind of takes the overwhelm out of the big think and encourages a bit of creativity through discussion.

Thanks everyone for trusting me to take a bite out of their 'big think', chew it up, and share my thoughts. I really enjoy it. It gets my creativity flowing!

Update: Since starting this venture a few months back, I too have fallen into 'busy-ness' (wow - I just tried to spell that as busi-ness, that's GOT to be an omen or something).

I work from home. I am in a lot of meetings. When I'm not in meetings, I'm trying to tackle my to-do list. This got me thinking...

What do we lose when we don't make time to think?

Oh man. Here's where my brain went into a frenzy. What do we lose?

  • Time to innovate and expand our thoughts?
  • Connections with colleagues?
  • Time to take a step back and look at all things from a macro level?
  • Time to reflect and learn?
  • What else?

It's hard to see when we're in it - just like anything else.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this. How can we incorporate a bit of "think time" into our day? And is that important?

I hope you all have a great Canada Day if you're in Canada. If not - have a great day anyway! Also - for a long time I wasn't sure if Canada was real. I thought it may be maple leaf. #dadjokes

Love the dad joke at the end - as always ????. To answer your question: if you need time to think, research, then schedule it with yourself. If you have a doctors appointment or something you need to commit time to, then we make the time. Make sure to commit one hour a day for learning / thinking etc. schedule 30 min after lunch or 30 min before the end of your day. Schedule the time for you is as important as scheduling the time for your colleagues , boss etc.
