Top of the weekend my friends! Do you know how old you are?

Here’s “7” (seven) words that’ll remind you how much your friends care! “Do you know how old you are”? Please give careful attention to the gory details.

A little over a week ago. During my usual exercise routine. I decided to go add a 5 or 6 mile walk. I didn’t think it was that hot. In addition I brought no water, cellphone or head covering for this traditional stroll. As they say in Hollywood “let me cut to the chase”! I suffered from a really bad case of heat exhaustion.

Good news is I didn’t have to go to the hospital. However for the next 5 days, I could not walk normally! Needless to say, after "what’s wrong with you" comes. “Do you know how old you are”? This familiar chastisement was quite often repeated from those incredibly wonderful people in my life.

Even as I write this tale of almost woe. Tears are caressing my eyes. A large part of who we are is what we do with life’s lessons. Sometimes being a manly man can feel a little flippant during times like these. Scratch my name off of that list. No exaggeration! This was truly a come to Jesus moment! While I’m on the subject to answer the question? I’ve just turned 72 years old. “You should know better” became the refrain of the day.

Now in an attempt to kinda change this harrowing topic. These are the Dog Days of Summer. The American Red Cross recommends: Minimize direct exposure to the sun. Take a cool shower. Drink plenty of fluids (with electrolytes) will prove to be beneficial. Cut back on your salt intake. Note the color of your urine, if it’s dark yellow. It might mean your not drinking enough water. Avoid sugary, caffeinated and alcoholic drinks within reason. If you have a medical condition talk with your doctor about preparation.

Now for the rest of the story! We are currently in the Dog Days of Summer!

This time of the year. “Sirius” is the brightest star in the heavens.? No not the satellite music service. It’s that real bright star in the Northern Hemisphere.

According to the National Weather Service for the next 20 days from July 3rd to August 11 this “star” Sirius rises and falls in conjunction with the sun.

The early days of the Greeks and Romans empire believed that the heat from these two stars combined is what made these summer days the hottest of the year! According to what folklore says about this period:

• Snakes go blind
• The morning dew is poisonous
• Dogs and men go mad during the hottest days of summer
• Some civilizations have associated the dog days with disease

For the record, the heat of summer is simply a direct result of the Earth’s tilt. During this summer period of assemblage in the Northern Hemisphere. The tilt of the Earth causes the Sun’s rays?to hit at a more direct angle, and for a longer periods of time throughout the day. This means longer, hotter days. The Dog Days of Summer.
