Top Virtual FinTech Conferences to Attend in 2020

Almost three months since lockdown, more conferences are either getting canceled or pivoted to offering virtual experiences. From Adobe Summit, IBM Think, and Amazon AWS Summit, to UK FinTech Week and Consensus: Distributed, we have no lack of digital content being pushed to us on a daily basis. While these events are a great way to bring technology communities together, we can’t help but wonder, are we starting to experience streaming fatigue?

Recently, we posed that very question to our audience on Twitter. While the percentage of people who remain enthusiastic about digital content — and those who think there is too much — is roughly the same (about 22%), over 38% of respondents indicated that they are now getting more selective with what they sign up for.

With countless events clogging up the inbox and social media feeds daily, we decided to cut through the chaos and bring you a curated list of upcoming fintech conferences that we thought would be worth your time. What else are you planning to attend? Let us know!

FinTechTalents Virtual Spring & FinTechTalents Virtual North America — Unlike most other events in the industry,  FTT Virtual is virtual by design to complement the one-of-a-kind FinTechTalents fintech festival (targeted for November 16-17). Whilst it may be harder to take part in the signature craft beer sessions and experience their live music, we are curious to see how the team can bring some of those vibes online and deliver on the promise of facilitated virtual networking, interactive content sessions, and live exhibition. FTT Virtual Spring will take place London time on June 10 and FTT North American will go live on September 9. All sessions will be available on demand post live.

CB Insights Tech Conference — Organized by CB Insights, the Tech Conference will focus on the impact of COVID19 on tech. The event will be livestreamed June 16-18, and takes place during the same time when we would attend Future of FinTech (postponed to November 16-18). If past events offer any guidance, we look forward to the insights from some of the best speakers in the tech industry, along with a mind-numbing amount of data and graphs.

EMERGE — The flagship event of the Financial Health Network, EMERGE, will be livestreamed from June 22-26. As an organization that focuses on consumer financial health, the discussion topics will include workplace wellness, savings, and credit innovations. Unlike the others, this live event will run for 3 hours daily during the course of that week.

Finovate Asia — The Asian edition of the Finovate brand, Finovate Asia, will take place from July 6-10, covering topics from digital transformation, future tech, and payments, to lending, financial inclusion, regtech, customer experience, and more. While the event will run on Singapore standard time, all content will be available on demand. The fate for the remainder of the Finovate events this year, including Finovate Fall (September 14-16) and Finovate West (rescheduled to November 23-24), are unknown at this point.

TechCrunch Disrupt SF 2020 — Branded as the ultimate Silicon Valley experience, Disrupt SF 2020 will take place from September 14-16, featuring founders and VCs in the startup ecosystem. Interestingly, TechCrunch still has the Moscone Center reserved for a live event, but will be offering digital pass options as well. Perhaps they know something we don’t.

MTL Connecte — The second edition of Montreal Digital Week, MTL Connecte, will take place from October 13-18. Apart from fintech, artificial intelligence, and digital identity, the event will also feature content around the Internet of Things (IoT), cybersecurity, and smart city. Could it become the Canadian version of SXSW?

On another note, Sibos has canceled their live event October 5-8, originally scheduled to be held in Boston. Meanwhile, Money20/20, has not made any announcements with respect to their live events scheduled for Singapore (August 25-27), Amsterdam (September 22-24), and Las Vegas (October 25-28). Similarly, Hong Kong FinTech Week (November 2-6) and Singapore FinTech Festival (November 9-13) have yet to make any formal announcements on potential pivots.

Social distancing doesn’t mean social isolation. So open your calendars and dive in and enjoy some of the best content these shows have to offer — all at the comfort of your home office.

We will see you at the first virtual drink reception on June 10!
