Top tips for a successful trade promotion - Part 7

There is a lot to think about when running a successful trade promotion or competition. I have put together a multi-part series of crucial considerations to take into account when running your next promotion, here is Tip #7.

Tip #7: Announce the winner

Don't forget to let everyone know who won! Once the entries are in, and the winner is chosen, the next step is to announce and notify the winner. You'll want to put much effort into this.

The first step is to contact the winner to let them know they have won. The winner's email or phone call can be used for the following;

  • Ensure the winner has met the entry criteria.
  • Provide all information relating to the prize.
  • Also, please provide details on how the winner can claim their prize.
  • Obtain confirmation you can use the winner's details in announcements and marketing.

But don't just send them an email and be done with it. Participants have invested their time, and in some cases, much effort to participate in your promotion, so make them feel exceptional. They'll feel great and will no doubt spread the word, plus, you'll keep people excited and pumped for your future promotions and competitions.

One way to celebrate the winner is to feature them on your website, social media page, marketing communications, even your brick-and-mortar store, if possible. 

Not only does this make the winner feel special but it ensures other entrants feel that winning is possible, by putting a name or a face to the winner you give future participants belief that they can win too. Make sure that you have your terms and conditions correctly written if you want to use the winner's details.

Nice and clear suggestions - would also suggest indemnity waivers for any travel/event or experience prizes to protect clients/promoter.
