DO - The five P`s

Passion - Believe in what you want and it will get you out of bed in the morning.

Perseverance - Nothing is easy; you have got to dust yourself off when you have fallen over and get back up and try again. Any entrepreneur who has not had a hard time is not really an entrepreneur.

Planning - You have got to have a plan, Not just a business plan - though that is important if you trying to raise investment - but a plan that sets down clear milestones of what you are trying to achieve. It does two things - it gets out of your head and down on paper what your idea is, and sometimes that journey from head to paper brings out lots more issues than you could ever imagine; and second, it convinces other people that you are serious about what you are doing.

Partnerships - The old adage. It`s who you know is very true in this business world. You could spend forever trying to get a High Street retailer on board, as opposed to if you have a contact it can make that journey a lot quicker. It`s about finding people who can get you to where you need to get to. No man or woman is an island in this game. If you try to do it by yourself you will find it very hard.

Planetary Assistance! - Sometimes it just comes down to luck. You can not plan for it, but when you see it, grab it with both hands and exploit. Make you own luck!

DO NOT

Go into business without sharing your ideas with at least ten people, you do not know. Lots of your friends will tell you, it`s a great idea, but without the proper research and planning and a wise head to look over it, you may spend an awful amount of money and waste your time. I have seen an awful lot of business plans where people think it`s the best thing since sliced bread, when a little bit of research will show that someone`s been doing it somewhere for five years.

Be too quick to give away equity in your business. Try to hang on to as much as possible for as long as possible.

REMEMBER

It`s yours, you drive it. No matter who you get on board, the buck stops with you; you have to make the final decision.

Success is within you, so go and plan your successful future now. Business and general life are the same, so plan your success.
