Top Tips on How to research for an MBA placement

As a final year MBA student, I understand it is difficult to search for an MBA internship in the highly competitive job market. With the current scenario of job freezes and layoffs it is important and equally difficult to land yourself into a job which is in your area of interest.

How to start your research?

There are few pointers which you need to identify first:

·      Which country you want to do your internship?

·      Once you’ve identified the country, next step is to find out which industry you want to work in. Some examples are Healthcare, IT, Consultancy, Finance, Marketing, etc.

·      Once you know the industry, search for the companies operating in that specific area of your interest.

Job Search Tips

1)     Check on the company’s Career/Job Portal if they have any jobs posted which are as per your expertise.

2)     Look out for the Jobs on LinkedIn and apply.

3)     There are various Job portals on which you could search and apply for jobs which are mentioned in the Job Portals section.

4)     Try contacting Recruitment Agencies

5)     Check out for Career Fairs

6)     Network and build professional relationships with people. This would help with references.

* Make sure that you fulfil each criterion and your CV and Cover Letter has all the keywords included as per the Job Description.

Additional Tips:

·      Once you know which job you need to apply, try to check on LinkedIn the job poster/ recruiter.

·      If you find out the Job Poster, try reaching out to them and send a professional customised message on how you are the best candidate for the specific job.

·      Sometimes the jobs are also posted by recruitment agencies and third-party contractors. Try reaching out to them and apply directly through the contractor. You would have a higher chance of getting hired.

·      For Tier 2 Jobs, try searching for Tier 2 Sponsor List on Google and you’ll find an authorised document with a list of more than 25000 companies sponsoring Tier 2 Visa.

·      Try to be proactive on social media platforms specially LinkedIn and this would help you in the long run.
