Top tips for hiring top candidates

So, you're hiring. That's great news! There is not much more exciting than the prospect of your business expanding and growing.

However, the quality of the candidates you hire will swiftly determine how successfully your business growth continues. That is why we are here to share 10 of our top tips that will help you attract the right caliber of candidates for your company.

  1. Know exactly what it is you are looking for

Your very first step in the hiring process needs to be an internal discussion between the hiring decision-makers. You need to all be on the same page and determine what need this candidate will be filling, and exactly what their role will be. What salary are you willing to offer, and what benefits do you feel are appropriate? It is essential to get on the same page early on, to minimise complications later in the process.

2. Perfect your job ads

Your job ad is likely one of the first touches of contact a candidate has with your company. So make it impressive! It goes without saying that spelling and grammar need to be pristine, but you also need to ensure that the content you are sharing is appealing and enticing. What benefits do you have to offer? What sets you apart from other major competition? What is your company culture really like?

Make sure to also set clear expectations of what you are looking for as well. What will the responsibilities of this potential hire look like? Who will the be managing, or reporting in to? The more detailed but efficient your text is, the btter!

3. Post your job ads on platforms that you know your ideal candidate will be

You need to know your target audience. Do a bit of market research on LI or social media platforms and figure out where your target audience is going to be. Once you have figured that out you can go full force in posting and sharing your job ads across those platforms. It is important to put yourself in the shoes of your ideal candidate in order to get your job in front of them.

4. Have a system for reviewing CVs and setting up interviews

Hiring is a swift process. And it is important to remember that you may be up against other companies who are operating in a very similar field to you. If you aren't able to move quickly and efficiently you may find that you lose the interest of your potential hires. Have a system in place that allows you to quickly review CVs as they come in, and contact individuals directly.

If you find a candidate that looks like a fit, be sure to contact them quickly and professionally. Set clear expectations with what the next steps are in the hiring process. Whether a telephone call or an interview, keep them in the loop!

5. Follow up with interviews

Make sure to follow up quickly with interviewees. Regardless of whether they were a fit or not, it is important for your company brand to be open and honest with those you interview. Keep things clear and concise.

6. Consider involving the whole team in the hiring process

Whether you are a small company or a large company it is wise to include other employees in the interview process. This will not only give the interviewee a good feel for the company culture but also gives you a better understanding of whether the potential hire will work well with different members of your team.
