It is no mystery that promoting positive wellbeing is a driving factor for success in the workplace. Many companies attribute good wellbeing in their staff to achieving goals, reducing sickness, and increasing productivity at work. For this year's World Wellbeing at Work Week, we are diving into the top benefits of wellbeing in the workplace.
Staff retention
This year alone, more than 600,000 people in the UK have quit their jobs and moved onto a new job . For many workers, money is not the only contributing factor to why they would leave a business. As many employers are breaking down the stigma of talking about mental health and wellbeing, increasing your awareness around these matters could help your staff retention rates. Statistics taken last year from a survey stated that 24% of 6000 people quitting their jobs said they wanted more of a work-life balance. Improving your staff retention will mean you have skilled workers who know their role well and are more satisfied working for your company. This can only lead to improvements!
Reduction in sick leave
Like being unwell physically, being unwell mentally can also affect employee’s ability to conduct their work to a satisfactory level. 12.7% of all sickness absence days in the UK can be attributed to mental health conditions. No one should be made to work if they are not feeling able to do so, however providing benefits to your employees that include promoting positive wellbeing, could reduce your employee sick leave rates.
Furthermore, if less than satisfactory employee mental health or wellbeing is because of poor working conditions, including being overworked, a lack of autonomy, or not feeling comfortable speaking up, it might be worth understanding why people are taking sick leave due to their mental health, and what changes can be made.
