The Top Three Examples of AI Being Used Right Now

There are constantly new AI developments in the works. The human-like intelligence means that current machines are already superior to us when it comes to carrying out certain tasks. Here are the top three examples of how AI is being used right now…

1)   Businesses

As you probably already know, AI stands for artificial intelligence. Deloitte’s study found that 82% of companies have already invested in it and gained a positive return on investment- for example, increased efficiency from the use of manufacturing robots. Businesses also used AI when filtering spam emails and preventing fraud. This is made possible from machine learning where systems can learn what types of transactions are fraudulent. This is a major time saver as daily transaction volumes are too high for humans to manually review each one- this is the same for emails that could potentially be dangerous if they were to land in someone’s inbox. AI is also commonly used in the healthcare industry as cyber crime is becoming increasingly common and needs to be prevented.

Businesses can also use conversion management to forecast sales by analysing inbound communication with traditional metrics, such as consumer engagement. In another effort to boost sales, customer service can be massively improved by making their shopping experience more personal through features such as high-tech support assistant chatbots that can answer simple questions, such as order status updates.

2)   Social media

AI is a huge help in marketing. Facebook and Google now secure a total of 85% of the online ad market. They can do this through deeply targeted advertisements, this also means that users’ news feed can be personalised to ensure that they are seeing posts that will be of interest to them.

AI is also revolutionary when it comes to crime prevention and security through analysing social media accounts. For example, Twitter used it to analyse hate speech, fake news and illegal content. This resulted in nearly 300,000 terrorist accounts being identified and taken down.

Another common form of AI is facial recognition. This is now very common in our everyday lives- most of us use it every time we go to unlock our smartphones. Facebook uses facial recognition to automatically highlight faces present in uploaded photos in order to personalise people’s friend suggestions.

AI is also amazing at creating predictions. One extraordinary example of this is in healthcare when they analyse social media posts to predict outbreaks of infections.

3)   Smart products

AI is likely to be in most of our homes. For example, smart voice-command assistants, such as Alexa and Siri. Amazon is determined for Alexa to be everywhere in the future: dog collars, glasses, earbuds, speakers, smart rings… the list goes on. Amazon Echo is constantly getting smarter and adding new features. It can control thermostats, answer questions, turn on the lights, report traffic and weather news, as well as providing sport scores. Amazon is also planning on letting users purchase alternative celebrity voices for Alexa, and you will soon be able to communicate with Samuel L Jackson’s voice. However, customer complaints of Alexa failures continue to be reported, such as her spontaneous creepy laugh and inability to understand some accents.

Tesla’s cars are also following the AI trend. They aim to offer high tech features, such as vehicles that are self-driving with predictive capabilities. However, they have been criticised by many for being too keen to be the first to introduce autonomous cars onto the roads, after the first fatal incident involving a self-driving car.
