Top Ten Things I Learned at the Movies…
Top Ten Things I Learned at the Movies…
1 -?“Begin each day like it was on purpose” – Hitch
Prioritizing is not overrated. We all are distracted dozens of unexpected emails, text messages, phone calls, video chats and never finding enough time to work on most important tasks for the day.??Many of us end our days feeling unproductive and unsure of what was accomplished.
We need to start our day with a clear idea of what we want to do – starting our day on the right foot has a lot to do with our success.??Take those few extra moments to focus on what will make a difference today. Put a plan to our chaos we call life.??
2 -?“Hard work may not always result in success, but it will never result in regret.” – Moneyball
Many of us DO regret working too much.??Losing time with our friends, family, or away from other things we love.??The trick is meaning and impact.??This may allow us to work just as hard — harder even — on things we consider to be important and meaningful.??What we realize is that what we really regret isn’t simply working too hard, it’s working too hard on things that don’t matter to us. If our work matters to us, if it represents?a something meaningful or impactful, we minimize these regrets.??We can live life more fully.??As that tattoo artist in the commercial so famously scribed, “No Regerts”.
3 - “Normally, it takes years to work your way up to the twenty-seventh floor. But it only takes 30 seconds to be out on the street again. You dig?” –?The Apartment
According to Paul Schoemaker, the research director at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School and co-author of Brilliant Mistakes, “most people tend to overreact to our slip-ups. We make an evaluation of gains and losses so that our losses loom much larger than our gains.”??As a result, we may be tempted to hide our mistakes, or even worse, continue down paths that have proven unproductive.??It is much better to accept mistakes, learn from them, and move on. Take educated risks and learn from your mistakes, do not fear your mistakes.
4 - “Without pain, without sacrifice, we would have nothing.” - Fight Club
It is about balance and sacrifice – we all sacrifice something for our success: time, stability, personal life, sleep, health, sanity, immediate satisfaction, etc.??Find the balance. And better yet, don’t lose the balance.
5 - “You got to dress for the job you want, not the job you got.” –?Head of State
We all can learn from those who are in the role we want next.??What have some of my favorite bosses taught me: push my limits, age does not matter (too young or too old), continuously network, you can never be too prepared, follow your heart (but check your logic), try new things, under promise and over deliver, be kind, accept feedback, take care of yourself first.??Set higher goals.
6 - “It’s not about the paycheck, it’s about respect, it’s about looking in the mirror and knowing that you’ve done something valuable with your day.” –?Dave
A lot of research suggests that overall happiness in life is more related to how much we are respected and admired by those around us, not to the status that comes from how much money we have stashed away in our bank account.??The respect and admiration in our face-to-face groups, such as our friend network, our neighborhood, our church group, or our athletic team – might make a difference in our overall happiness. And those friends can be our compass to keep us in check …and help us live longer too.
7 - “Some people can’t believe in themselves until someone else believes in them first.” - Good Will Hunting
Inspiring confidence from others is an essential ingredient for any trusting relationship—friends, family members, spouses, teachers, team members, customers.??We can bring out self-confidence?in others by adding an emphasis on confidence-building to the way we communicate, interact, delegate and trust.??I had a boss who once said, “…sometimes you just need to move that little flower into the sunlight.”??Be that boss…. believe in somebody.
8 - “Believe in yourself. Your confidence will lead you to success and happiness.” – Shrek
Self-confidence means trusting in our own judgment, knowledge, and abilities. It's about valuing ourselves and feeling worthy, regardless of any imperfections or what others may think or say about us.??Self-confident people seem at ease with themselves and their work. They invite trust and inspire confidence in others. These are all attractive characteristics to have.
That said, it's not always easy to be confident in ourselves, particularly if we're naturally self-critical or if other people put us down.??Projecting a positive image to others can help us to improve our self-confidence. It's not simply a matter of "fake it til you make it" – if we project with confidence, others are more likely to respond well, and this positive feedback will help us to believe in ourselves.??And a little secret – nobody is perfect (contrary to how they are portrayed on social media).??Believe in yourself.
9 -?“Carpe Diem. Seize the day. Make your lives extraordinary.” –?Dead Poets Society
Our friends or peers who smile in public have been through every bit as much as people who cry, frown, and scream. They just simply found the courage and strength to smile through it and enjoy life in the best way possible.??As we get older, it becomes clearer every day that life is short, and we only live once. Learning to live life to the fullest is an important step in making the most of every day.??Learning to live life to the fullest is a big step in discovering a path that will lead us to our greatest sense of happiness and accomplishment. We all need moments to rest and relish in a sense of contentment but staying in one place too long will leave us feeling an emptiness in life. Discover what makes our life feel meaningful and go after it.???Seize the day.
10 - “No one ever made a?difference by being like everybody else.” - The Greatest Showman
We all have our own unique ideology. Those of us who are different usually feel the more intense need to fulfill our ideas, and that's a wonderful pushing force that can help us to succeed in life. We are all part of the crowd. We all want to chase something beautiful in life, but we should not always follow other footsteps. Chasing others will never take us to new and beautiful places. So, let’s create our own path and achieve success in our lives. Take the road less traveled. Stop comparing our lives with others. Don’t lose our sensibility or direction by accepting what others say to us. People will never stop judging us. It is us, and only us, who have to face the uncertainties and master our own thoughts to accept ourselves. We all should have a different story. Follow your own footsteps and don’t let society tell you who you are.??Make a difference.??Make an impact.
Together. We.??Win.??
Things to live by - thanks!!!
