OSHA’s outright proclaimed motive for doing this is to let employers know what is being cited so that preventive steps can be taken in order to preclude parallel standards from being cited by others.

Back on Jan. 5, 2019, OSHA updated its annual top ten list of the most frequently cited standards covering the time period of Oct. 1, 2017 through Sept. 30, 2018 and is numbered directly below:

1. 1926.501 – fall protection

2. 1910.1200 – hazard communication

3. 1926.451 – scaffolding

4. 1910.134 – respiratory protection

5. 1910.147 – lockout/tagout

6. 1910.178 – powered industrial trucks

7. 1926.1053 – ladders

8. 1910.305 – electrical, wiring methods

9. 1910.212 – machine guarding

10.1910.303 – electrical, general requirements

Though the order of this year’s top ten list swerved very little from previous years, there are consistencies of the cited standards for employers to take a heed to; all ten of the OSHA cited standards could be applicable, at varying degrees, at USDA inspected establishments; in particular, the Hazard Communication Standard, Lockout/Tagout, Machine Guarding and Fall Protection.
