In this article, I want to talk to you about the top 10 benefits that I see in online marketing. Some of you may know that I had a couple of bricks and mortar businesses years ago. I had my dental practice, because I'm a dentist, and I also had a bathroom renovation retail business, which was a massive disaster in the end. We lost a lot of money over it but I've learned a lot of very valuable lessons from it. And those lessons drove me to create income online. I was initially writing books – I just published my 10th book, and then two more online business structures came along.
So the following are the top ten reasons I have moved my businesses from bricks and mortar to online.
1. Decreased Overheads
The first thing is that there are decreased overheads. You don't have the overheads that the bricks and mortar businesses have. You know, every four weeks I was having to cough up the rent, I had to pay wages weekly, the superannuation, the worker's compensation insurance, the electricity. All these unavoidable expenses that were happening whether or not I was actually at work, and whether or not the business was making money. It's very stressful having these expenses.
With online marketing, those overheads only increase as your income increases and you need to bring people in to help you.
2. Decreased Risk
The second thing is decreased risk, which goes hand in hand with decreased overheads. You don't need the risk involved. Firstly, you don't have to buy or have a massive set up fee with an online business. You don't have to setup fees, you don't have to borrow money or use your own money in equity to set up, and you don't need to have those overheads so you have a much-decreased risk.
3. Starting Small
The third thing I love about online marketing is that you can actually use small amounts of money in marketing to test things. With Facebook ads, you can start with as little as $5 a day. When I had my other businesses, I would have to spend masses amount of money on marketing or bring people in to help me market because I didn't know anything about it. I pretty much always saw zero income from that.
I remember my last business, it was back in the days before everyone was online, and I had a yellow pages ad, which is a business phone book, and that full-page ad cost me $10,000. Did that give me $10,000 worth of value? No, I don't think it did because at that point in time we were changing over to online spaces, and people were looking for stuff more online than actually sitting down with a phone book in place. I paid people to come in and help me do marketing and got nothing out of it.
With online marketing, you can test things for a very small amount of money, and then when you get it right you can scale them.
4. Automating
The fourth thing I love about online marketing is you can pretty much automate everything. You can set up your sales funnel then automate them and they're making money for you. You just got to feed the people in the top and they're getting down through this sales funnel process that you've put together, and it's making you money. Also, you can have follow-up email campaigns set up that just go out automatically. Also, you can automate a lot of your social media now. It is even possible to have your evergreen webinars out there, automatically just bringing people in and selling people things at the back end, which is very exciting.
Yes, the tech and the setup side of it is a little bit higher initially, but once you've worked out how to do it and you can create stuff, you can create stuff that is making you money forever if you want it to.
5. Passive Income
That's the fifth thing I love about it is that once you've created something, it's making you money forever, unlike in dentistry where once I take my fingers out of someone's mouth and they sit up, I'm not making money anymore. I've done the job, I've been paid for it and that's it. If I want to keep making money, and yes I can make a lot of money, but it means I have to keep doing it over and over and over again, which is exhausting and my neck and my back can't handle that anymore, so I pretty much can't work full-time anymore. This means that I'm limited in my capacity of what I can do, which is where online marketing is amazing because I can write a book, put it out there, and it's making me money.
I can put a sales funnel together, put it out there, and it's making me money. even when I'm sleeping.
We can set an e-commerce site up there and automate all the processes, it's out there, and it's making us money. And you can keep building on it.
6. Expanding Into Different Areas
The sixth thing I love is once you know how to do it, you can do it in many different areas. At the moment, Steph and I are setting up Social Media Bomb, which will eventually be our online mentoring program, but to test everything that we know about online marketing, we have set up a few different things. We're setting up a social media agency and we're working with some clients now, helping them. We've also done an e-commerce site that we're going to be driving, using online marketing techniques to perfect automating, building a network marketing team, and then we're going to be able to teach that, which is very exciting.
We're taking one thing that we know how to do and then we're applying it in many different situations and we're working out exactly how to do it, so we can eventually take it back to our online marketing mentorship and teach people in their fields.
7. Small and Big Scale
The seventh thing I love is that you can scale as big or as small as you want. So, if you just want to make $10,000 a month, then you can scale to that and stay there and just keep feeding the fire. If you want to scale to $100,000 a month, you can do that. And if you want to scale to a million dollars a month, you could do that too. It's a lot more work obviously, but it's possible, and that's the thing I love about online marketing.
With dentistry, there's only so many hours in the week I have. Sure, I can up skill myself to the point where I'm charging more per hour, but there is still a cap of how much I can earn. If I wanted to have my dental practice again to earn more money, then it's more stress, which is what I don't need. It's also more hands-on, you can't walk away and leave it for a month. I'm about to go away camping for a month, and I'm setting up everything before I go. I'm recording all my videos, getting all my blogs done, so that my virtual assistant can just post them all while I'm gone and I don't have to think about it.
At a dental practice, I'd be out there having anxiety about the fact that the rent was due and I wasn't there making money. So, it's another benefit of online marketing.
8. Having Small Number of People
The eighth thing I love is you only really need a small number of people to have a viable living. You niche down to the smallest viable niche, and then you basically talk just to them. When you first start out, you think you need the whole world, but you really don't. You just need a small niche of people to get and make a living online.
Work out who they are and what they want, and what problems or pains they have, and how you can solve those problems and pains, and then you can make a living out of that.
9. Keep Adding Products
The ninth thing I like is that you can keep adding products to increase your income.
Once you've worked out how to make money and you create a product that's making money, then you can keep duplicating that system with different products, then you can even start adding them up.
For example, with books, I have box sets now or with courses, you can put bigger courses together, or you can have your one-time offers and things like that. Initially, you don't know what the hell you're doing, you're not making anything. And then once you learn to do it and all of a sudden you can scale, and you can have as much money as you want.
10. Outsourcing
The tenth thing I love about online marketing is that you can outsource a lot of it. I have a VA who does a lot of our social media stuff. She goes through and sets my blogs up for me and then I just proof them. Also, she edits my videos, and puts the lower thirds in them and puts them up on YouTube for me and does all the tagging. She's so much better than me now at all this stuff, and in fact, sometimes I get in her way.
You can also outsource your graphics, your website, your copywriting, your advertising.
If you have enough money, you can outsource everything and you can just be the person who is putting all those pieces of the pie together and has the business.
You don't have to learn how to do everything yourself. I mean, I have and that means I can teach it, which is great, but you don't have to be able to do everything yourself, you can outsource it.
Okay, so I hope you got something out of that, 10 good reasons to be online in the online space. You guys have a wonderful week and I'll see you soon.
