Q&A with the Charleston hospitality exec investing $7 million in two new South Tampa restaurants

Steve Palmer owns 35 restaurants and six hotels across the Southeast and Washington, D.C., area, but he says even that track record is no guarantee he’ll succeed in Tampa — or any new market.

Palmer spoke with the Business Journal about his view of the Tampa hospitality market and his unique approach to building a workplace culture. He is the co-founder of Ben’s Friends, a substance abuse support group for those in the hospitality industry.

Publix to demolish, rebuild west St. Pete store

Publix Super Markets Inc. will close one of its St. Petersburg locations to make way for a new store.

The current supermarket will close on July 27. A spokesperson confirmed that the grocer will build a new store but did not provide a timeline.

Movie theater owner wants courtyard construction at St. Pete's Sundial stopped immediately

The owner of the AMC movie theater in downtown St. Petersburg has hastened its monthslong attempt to halt construction at the Sundial shopping and dining complex.

AMC's owner filed an amendment in court this week seeking an immediate end to the construction of a canopy in the courtyard. It also said the canopy is “much larger” than expected and wants it removed.

Avelo Airlines adds seven new routes out of Lakeland

Avelo Airlines, a Houston-based startup low-cost carrier, has announced seven new nonstop routes to Lakeland Linder International Airport.?

The announcement comes just a month after Avelo launched its first route from LAL, a nonstop service to Southern?Connecticut’s Tweed-New Haven Airport.
