Stock Market Highlights: Sensex, Nifty 50 ends little changed following a volatile session
The benchmark Sensex slipped by 139 points, settling at 80,082, while the Nifty declined by 37 points to close at 24,436. Despite the flat performance of large-cap indices, the Midcap Index outperformed, surging by 302 points, or nearly 1%, to end the day at 56,476.?
The Nifty Bank Index also managed to edge up slightly, gaining 18 points to close at 51,239.
India-China ties important for global peace, says PM Modi after meeting Xi Jinping in five years
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping held bilateral talks on Wednesday, October 23, on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia. This marks the first structured meeting between the two world leaders since the eastern Ladakh border row erupted in May 2020. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India-China ties were important for global peace and stability. He added that border peace and stability should be our priority.
PM Modi and Xi reviewed bilateral ties and thanked each other for showing respect for each other on sensitive issues. They decided to further improve bilateral relations and continue close contact with each other.
The two leaders welcomed the deal reached in the Indo-China border issue. The special representatives of both sides will meet soon.
HUL Q2 Results: Domestic volume growth of 3%; to separate Ice Cream business
FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Ltd. (HUL) on Wednesday, October 23, reported domestic volume growth of 3% for the July to September period of financial year 2025. The firm posted a net profit of ?2,612 crore, which was lower than CNBC-TV18's poll of ?2,675 crore.
For the quarter, the company's revenue rose marginally to ?15,508 crore as against ?15,276 crore in the corresponding quarter of previous fiscal. The topline was also lower than CNBC-TV18's poll of ?15,665 crore.
RBI MPC Minutes: Governor Das flags short-term inflation risks amid growth emphasis
In the latest Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) minutes, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das highlighted the resilience of India’s economy in Q2 FY25. He noted, "High-frequency indicators suggest that economic activity remained steady during the second quarter of FY25," driven by improved government expenditure and corporate investment.
The Governor added that private sector investments are "gaining steam," reflecting a positive outlook for India’s growth trajectory.

The Supreme Court on Wednesday, October 23, set aside the verdict of the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) that stopped the insolvency proceedings against embattled ed-tech firm Byju's. The Supreme Court found serious violations of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) procedures during the approval of the settlement, concluding that the bankruptcy appellate tribunal had improperly sanctioned the agreement between the two parties.
